1990? TH Christmas Tree Ornament. Glass. 2” wide. From Bayside Antiques. Unknown date of acquisition.
This is a fragile ornament. Both animals have very fine parts that seem as though they could break easily. The ornament features the frequent motif of hare riding turtle; as far as I can tell, this feature has nothing to do with the Aesopic fable, but I have not been able to find its source.
2008 Christmas Tree Ornament of Tortoise and Hare. Glass. 4" in height. Made in China: Old World Christmas. Gift of Margaret Carlson Lytton, Christmas, 2008.
This ornament presenting the tortoise and hare as a buddies is still available on the web, I learned. The tortoise is particularly well done, with his sideways baseball cap and 1st place award. Thank you again, Meg!
