Etchings by Marcel North

1941  "Paysages gravés à l'eau-forte pour douze fables de Jean de La Fontaine." "12 handwritten signed and numbered original etchings in loose sheets with tissue paper. In half-canvas folder. Number 38 of 50 copies. These etchings were printed at Orell Füssli in Zurich.

I also include this set among books.  I find it remarkable and even unique.  I will  mention several of my favorites.  In III TMCM - Lausanne, are we viewing the city meal?  The "little" rider in  IV WS - Sierre is perfect for the scene and the fable.  In V MSA - Neuchâtel, I had to look for the milller, son, and ass; might that have been the artist's intent?  In VIII The Two Doves - Saint-Blaise, should I be able to find the stay-at-home dove?  IX The Cat and the Fox - Valangin has a scene usually set in the countryside.  How different to find the hunt coming through the gate into town!  XII The Old Man and the Three Young People - Colombier has, as is appropriate something wistful about it.  I appreciate both the physical separation of the young men from the old man and their appropriately various clothing.
