1920? Hand-painted bowl 8" in diameter and 1¼" deep. Title "The Dog & The Shadow" above the hand-painted colored illustration, and "People Who Try To Get What Belongs To/Others Often Lose More Than They Gain" below. Gold trim around the inside and outside edges of the top ring. Aesop's Fables Series. Royal Winton, Grimwades. Made in England. $35 from Col. Kirk's Auction Gallery, Millville, PA through Ebay, August, '99.

Magnificent color work! The red piece of meat is just about to hit the water. Some of the lettering seems to be breaking up, but I see no loss in the picture.

1920? Hand-painted bowl 6¾" in diameter and 1¾" deep. Title "The Lion & The Mouse" above the hand-painted colored illustration, and "Those Who Do Not Abuse Their Strength/Benefit By The Gratitude Of The Weak" below. Gold trim around the inside and outside edges of the top ring. Aesop's Fables Series. Royal Winton, Grimwades. Made in England. $39.99 from Lisa Levy, Roslyn, NY, through Ebay, April, '99.

There are several black smudges around the inside edge, which the seller says come from the factory. The colored picture of LM inside the bowl is lovely, with purple mountains in the background and pastels around the foreground.

1920? Hand-painted bowl 6¾" in diameter and 1¾" deep. Title "The Wolf and the Lamb" above the hand-painted colored illustration, and "When You Have Made Up Your Mind To Quarrel/It Is Easy To Find An Excuse" below. Gold trim around the outside edge of the top ring. Aesop's Fables Series. Royal Winton, Grimwades. Made in England. $25 from an unknown source, about 2005.

The depiction of WL is consistent with the depiction on other members of this Royal Winton series.

1920? Cup and saucer. Title "The Wolf & The Lamb." "When You Have Made Up Your Mind To Quarrel/It Is Easy To Find An Excuse" around the rim of the saucer. Similar hand-painted illustrations of lamb, river, and wolf on each. Gold trim around the handle and the edges of both cup and saucer. Evergreens (?), cones (?), and silver swirl patterns on the non-picture sides of both pieces. Aesop's Fables Series. Royal Winton, Grimwades. Made in England. $22 from Tamy Treso, Redvers, Saskatchewan, through Ebay, Feb., '00.

As with the two bowls, the strength here of Royal Winton lies in its lovely colors. The pastels in the river make it almost psychedelic! Both pieces have a golden "A" as an additional mark on the bottom. Click on the image for a larger version.

1920? Tall cup almost 3" in diameter and 3¾" high. Title "The Lion & The Mouse" above the hand-painted colored illustration, and "Those Who Do Not Abuse Their Strength/Benefit By The Gratitude Of The Weak" below. Gold trim around the top ring and along the front of the handle. Aesop's Fables Series. Royal Winton, Grimwades. Made in England. $5.50 from Bidwell, Castro Valley, CA, through eBay, August, '04.

The back of this cup has a lovely pattern of scrolls, branches, and leaves. The depiction of LM is consistent with other members of this series.

1920? Short cup 2¾" in diameter and 2¾" high.  Title "The Lion & The Mouse" above the colored illustration, and "Those Who Do Not Abuse Their Strength/Benefit By The Gratitude Of The Weak" below.  Gold trim around the top ring and along the front of the handle.  Royal Winton, Grimwades.  Made in England.

This cup includes the same elements as the taller cup, but has to work them into a smaller space.  There is, for example, on the back of this cup again a lovely pattern of scrolls, branches, and leaves.  The depiction of LM is again consistent with other members of this series.
