About Pharmacy, PT & OT

Join a national leader in health education and service.

The Creighton University School of Pharmacy was founded in 1905. As the School grew over the years, other health professions were incorporated into the School until the present day; now the professions of pharmacy, occupational therapy and physical therapy are represented in the School. In 2002, the School changed its name to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions and is a major part of the Creighton University Academic Health Center. Innovation, academic excellence, compassionate team-based patient care and community-focused service are the hallmarks of the School.

A Pioneer in Healthcare

In 2001, the School initiated the first distance-based Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) pathway in the United States. This unique pathway has served as a model for distance education in the health sciences at the national level. The School offers both campus-based and distance-based pathways leading to the PharmD degree.

In 1992, the School initiated the first-entry level clinical doctorate in physical therapy to be offered in the United States. The Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT) has become the professional degree offering in physical therapy education in the United States.

In 1995, the School initiated one of the first post-baccalaureate Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) programs in the country to phase out the bachelor of science degree that was currently being offered and in 1999, the School offered the first entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree in the United States.

In addition to the campus-based OTD pathway, the School created the first entry-level hybrid-based Doctor of Occupational Therapy pathway in 2008. This unique hybrid pathway partners with the University of Alaska at Anchorage, and in 2013 and 2015 respectively, two additional hybrid pathways were initiated; one in the greater Omaha area and one with Regis University in Denver. In these pathways, students work online, work in laboratories and gain clinical learning experience at the respective sites in Anchorage, Omaha and Denver. The greater Omaha pathway will transition to the Phoenix area in Fall 2021 to continue the commitment of Creighton University to serve the community in that area by offering our students the opportunity to work in a wide variety of clinical settings and work directly with a diverse patient population.

Faculty Excellence and Clinical Education

The School is fortunate to have a large faculty, with many well-known faculty members across pharmacy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Our students receive excellent foundational education in the basic and professional sciences and our students receive first-rate clinical education with faculty who are among the best in the nation. Our students receive their clinical education with an emphasis on interprofessional education and practice. This emphasis on team care and patient-centered care is vital for our practitioners of tomorrow.
