Welcome to the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. We have a rich tradition and history of educating occupational therapists, pharmacists and physical therapists to be competent and compassionate healthcare professionals ready to practice in an ever-changing and complicated healthcare environment.
As a Jesuit institution, our focus on the Ignatian tradition guides us to develop clinicians who see beyond the science to the humanistic needs of our patients. We emphasize cura personalis, Latin for “care of the person.” Our approach to patient care addresses the whole person, not just the disease requiring treatment.
Our dedicated, experienced and caring faculty are committed to educating occupational therapists, pharmacists and physical therapists prepared to practice today, tomorrow and the tomorrows thereafter. It is not enough for you to learn your profession, but you must also learn to learn over your lifetime as a professional. This all takes place within our state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces and via innovative distance education pathways that prepare graduates to practice quality patient care. In addition to learning with the students within your discipline, you will learn collaborative care via our interprofessional education experiences.
Creighton is a leader in interprofessional education and community engagement and cultivating collaboration across the health sciences. As part of a campus that has a long history of preparing healthcare professionals, our students join with medical, dental and nursing students to practice as interprofessional teams, dedicated to the best patient care. Our unique interprofessional practice site serves as a healthcare delivery model across the United States. In addition, service to others is a cornerstone of our programs. Our belief that “to whom much is given, much is expected” results in nearly 10,000 hours of community service provided by our faculty and students each year, in Omaha and far beyond.
Creighton is a pioneer in entry-level pharmacy, occupational therapy and physical therapy education. The first clinical doctorates in occupational therapy (OTD) and physical therapy (DPT) were established by Creighton, as was the first distance entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy Distance Pathway program in the United States, offering students an opportunity to become a pharmacist without relocating to Omaha. In addition, our unique collaborations in occupational therapy allow students in Alaska and Colorado to earn a Creighton OTD degree in those locations. Finally, our success in educating students is demonstrated by our graduates consistently outperforming national averages on licensing exams in each of our programs.
The more than 1,000 students enrolled in our programs come to Creighton for reasons beyond our innovation and technology, however. If you are looking for an opportunity to learn where care is truly multi-faceted, and you are looking to create a better world that is more compassionate and just, then I encourage you to look at Creighton, and I invite you to join us in serving, leading and advancing health for all.
