HIS 311: United States History to 1877

(Required of all History majors.)

Instructors: Dr. Leavelle, Dr. Wilson

History 311 surveys the growth and development of United States institutions from their European origins through the end of Reconstruction. Emphasis will be placed on the ideas and processes that created those institutions, the degree to which they were derived from our western heritage, and the extent to which they have become uniquely American. History 311 serves as the basis for advanced work in United States history. It is required of history majors, but non-majors will find it an appropriate introduction to, or review of, United States history to 1877.
