Mitchell Scholars must exhibit superior records of academic excellence, leadership and public service. Strong, demonstrated achievements in all three areas are required.
The Mitchell Scholarship provides tuition, housing, a living expenses stipend, and international travel. There are also sponsors and contributors that offer Mitchell scholars numerous other benefits, such as a stipend for travel throughout Europe, access to the Royal Ireland Academy, and tickets to the Abbey Theatre.
There is an online application for this scholarship. It includes a requirement for 5-8 letters of reference and a personal essay. The personal essay is a key component of this application. It also includes an institutional endorsement. The GRE is not required, and the program of study can be in any field/program that is offered at one of the nine universities in Ireland that support this scholarship. Applicants will need to research the institutions and be prepared to list more than one choice for their place of study.
