Laura Roost, PhD

Associate Professor

Dr. Roost’s research focuses on care ethics in transitional justice and communities, ethnicized/racialized violence, human rights, international law, African philosophy, and civic engagement through service learning. She is a teaching associate professor and the internship director in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Creighton University, and is affiliate faculty in the African Studies Program, and in the African American and Black Diasporic Studies Program. Roost is the 2026-2028 Senior Faculty Associate for Academic Service-Learning at Creighton University’s Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), and was the CFE 2024-2026 Faculty Associate for Academic Service-Learning, working closely with the Program Manager for the Office of Global and Community Engaged Learning. In September 2025, Roost was elected on to the editorial board of theJournal of Political Science Education. For the American Political Science Association (APSA), she has served on the executive council of the Political Science Education (PSE) section, including as co-chair of the diversifying PSE committee, and she has served on the board for the APSA Human Rights section. In other areas of service for APSA, Roost chaired APSA’s Award for Teaching Innovation Committee for 2024-2025, served on the committee for the Craig L. Brians Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Mentoring in 2024, served on the 2022 APSA Poster Award Committee, and was the 2022 program co-chair for PSE. She has previous experience serving as a Program, Curriculum, and Assessment Coordinator for political science, public & non-profit administration, and international studies programs, serving as a campus Fulbright Liaison and Fulbright Program Advisor, and serving as a campus pre-law advisor. She earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with graduate specializations in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (Ph.D.), and Women’s & Gender Studies (M.A).
