Does Creighton have an application deadline? 

• December 1 is our priority deadline. Students who complete their application by this date receive priority scholarship consideration. After December 1, decisions are made on a rolling basis. 

When is the best time to apply to Creighton? 

• We recommend you apply early in the fall of your senior year of high school. The application for the following year opens on August 1. 

What is required to complete the application process? 

• A completed application 
• Your official high school transcript, including the scale on which you were graded, sent directly from your high school 
• ACT or SAT exam scores* (writing portions not required; can be self-reported scores) 
• A high school counselor evaluation 
• A personal statement 
• Optional: your resume and letters of recommendation 

*Students who are applying test-optional do not need to submit ACT or SAT scores to have a completed application for admission. 

How can I submit these documents? 

• Your transcripts and recommendations must come from a school official or the person writing your recommendation. They can submit documents electronically. Your counselor can also find out more information about how to submit documents.  

How do I know what items you’ve received and what still needs to be sent? 

• You can always see the status of your application, including your application item checklist, in your Student Portal. If you have additional questions, contact your admissions counselor. 

My counselor just sent my documents. Why does it still show they’re missing? 

• It typically takes us a few business days to process documents. During busy times, especially right before a deadline, it can take up to two weeks.  

How long does the application review process take? 

• Once our Admissions Office has received your completed application, including all supplemental materials, the review process takes about four weeks. We will begin reading applications in mid-October, so the first admissions decisions won’t be sent until early November. 

Does Creighton accept self-reported SAT or ACT exams? 

• Yes. You can self-report SAT or ACT scores in your Student Portal. 

Does Creighton require the writing portions of the SAT or ACT exams? 

• No. 

Does Creighton require any SAT II exams? 

• No.

What does it take to get accepted at Creighton? 

• At Creighton, we want passionate, service-oriented students who will stand among tomorrow’s leaders. We also want to create a diverse, collaborative community. In determining whether Creighton’s right for you, we consider all the information available in your application holistically, including your high school GPA, exam scores, extracurricular activities and letter of recommendation. That being said, we strongly encourage you to take four years of English, math and social science in high school at the highest level you’re capable, along with three years of natural science, foreign language and electives. 

Does Creighton award credit for Advanced Placement (AP) exams? 

• Absolutely. For a list of exams we accept and the corresponding score benchmarks, please visit our Advanced Placement page. We also award credit for IB exams, CLEP exams and A-level courses, among other things.  

Does Creighton have an honors program? 

• Yes, we have multiple honors and leadership programs. Eligible students must submit a program application by January 10.  Find out more and apply. 

If I’m accepted to Creighton, what’s the deadline for making my deposit? 

• The deadline to submit your class deposit and housing reservation is May 1. You can make your deposit via the Student Portal.  
• Simply contact your admissions counselor to discuss your next steps.  

Is your nursing program direct-entry? How do I apply for it? 

• Yes. List the College of Nursing on your application for admission. If admitted, you have a spot in the nursing program—no additional application is necessary once you arrive at Creighton. Learn more about our nursing program. 

How do I apply for merit scholarships? 

• All you need to do is complete your application for admission by the priority deadline. Upon application for admission, all students are also evaluated for merit scholarships. 

When will I receive my scholarship decision? 

• You’ll receive your scholarship decision along with your admissions decision, typically about 4-6 weeks after you complete your application. We begin reading applications in mid-October, so the first admissions and scholarship decisions are sent in early November. 

Are there any other scholarships? 

• Students receive most of their scholarships from Creighton via merit scholarships. We do have a handful of additional scholarship opportunities for eligible students. They’re based on specific criteria. If you apply for admission by December 1, and are eligible for these scholarships, you will see this information in your Student Portal. The deadline for application for these supplemental scholarships is January 10. 

Can I use outside scholarships? 

• Of course! You can bring in any outside scholarships, up to the cost of attendance. Just be sure to let our Financial Aid Office (finaid@creighton.edu) know you’re bringing in additional aid. 

What is the total cost of attendance? 

• View our direct costs (tuition, fees, housing, and food). As a private school, there is no difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. 100% of students last year paid less than the sticker price; there are numerous opportunities to bring the cost down.

What about need-based aid? 

• We highly encourage families to file the FAFSA by February 1 to explore grants, loans and/or work study opportunities.  

Do you consider financial need in awarding scholarships? 

• Our merit scholarships awarded at the time of admission are need-blind. This means a family’s income does not influence the amount awarded.  

Do I have to file the FAFSA? 

• While not required, the FAFSA is highly encouraged to ensure students have explored all aid options. 

Do I have to file the CSS Profile? 

• No.  

How do I know if you’ve received my FAFSA? 

• Check in your Student Portal or email your admissions counselor. 

I’ve already filed the FAFSA. When will I receive my financial aid package? 

• We typically email financial aid packages in late February. This will outline the full cost of attendance for the academic year, as well as all aid offered from Creighton. 

How do I see what special programs I’m eligible for?  

• Check the Student Portal. You’ll see all applications you’re eligible for, as well as the status for applications you’ve started but may still need to submit additional materials to complete.  

Can I be in multiple programs?

• No,* you can only be in one program. However, you are encouraged to apply for all programs that interest you. You will rank your preferences the first week of February. The selections are then made through a mutual selection process. The reason we only allow you to be in one program is to avoid overcommitting yourself. Additionally, some programs have conflicting activities (i.e. living in two places at once or being enrolled in multiple RSP classes).  

* There is one exception: A student is allowed to participate in one of the Pre-Professional Scholars Programs AND one other undergraduate special program.

Can I apply to more than one Pre-Professional Scholars Program?  

• No, you may only apply to one Pre-Professional Scholars Program. We encourage you to select the professional school you are most interested in.  

Does applying to multiple programs hurt my chances of getting into a specific one? 

• No. Apply to everything that interests you. Programs do not see what else you have applied for.  

How do I rank the programs in order of preference?  

• You’ll receive an email a few days after Special Programs Day with a survey to rank your preferences. You’ll only have a few days to complete it, so be sure to fill it out promptly.

How do I determine which program is the best fit and how to rank them?

• Instead of just thinking about what program might look best on your resume or help advance you to your next goal, think about what kind of experiences you want to have to supplement your Creighton education. Each program has a unique set of opportunities. Consider which one best matches your goals.  

When will I find out if I was selected?

• Program and scholarship decisions will be sent out via standard mail mid-February.

How do I set up a visit to campus? 

• You can either request a visit online, call us at 402.280.2703 or email us at  admissionsvisits@creighton.edu.

When can I visit? 

• We offer visits Mondays through Fridays throughout the calendar year (fall, spring, summer) and one Saturday per month during fall and spring semesters.

Do you offer visits on the weekends? 

• Yes! One Saturday per month, September through April.

What is the difference between visit options? 

• A personalized weekday visit includes a 30-minute admissions presentation, a 60-minute tour of campus with a qualified current Creighton student, and a 30-minute meeting with an admissions representative.
• A Saturday visit includes a 30-minute group information session with a current student panel and a 60-minute tour of campus with a qualified current Creighton student. Choosing the right campus visit for you depends on where you are in your college search. Be sure to ask your admissions counselor if you aren’t sure. 

How far in advance do I need to schedule a visit? 

• Please let us know when you’re planning to come so we can be best prepared. We want to make your visit as meaningful as possible for you! Please schedule your visit at least 1-2 weeks in advance for best availability, but we’ll do our best to accommodate shorter notice, too.

Are students required to live on campus? 

• All unmarried undergraduate students from outside the immediate Omaha area, as defined by the University, are required to live in University residence halls during their freshman and sophomore years, unless otherwise approved.

How many residence halls are on campus? 

• There are eight residence halls on campus. Three freshman halls (traditional and suite style), four sophomore apartments and one upperclassman apartment. Find out more about on our campus housing options. 

How do I reserve a room on campus? 

• Once you’ve been admitted to Creighton, you will receive a message asking you to reserve your spot in the freshman class and residence halls. You will need to fill out and submit this form and the housing application by May 1. You can request a room and make your deposit in your Student Portal. 

What comes with my room? 

• While rooms differ slightly in each hall, we provide the following standard features: twin XL bed frame and mattress, lofting materials and ladder, three-drawer dresser, desk and chair, sink with storage cabinet, wastebasket and recycle bin, and mini fridge and microwave. All rooms are fully air-conditioned (and, of course, heated). They're also equipped with two high-speed internet lines. See our suggested packing list.

Can I select my roommate? 

• You can request your roommate during the roommate selection period (mid-May to mid-June). Both roommates will need to complete housing applications and confirm interest in the roommate group in order to be paired together. Individuals who complete their housing applications after the May 1 deadline are not guaranteed their requested roommate.

Can I have a car on campus? 

• Yes, you are allowed to have a car on campus. Explore the cost for a parking tag. 

Are there on-campus jobs for students who don’t qualify for Federal  Work-Study? 

• Yes, even if you do not qualify for Federal Work-Study (FWS), you will still have opportunities to obtain an on-campus job. Jobs are listed with the Student Employment Office. 

Do you offer study abroad? 

• Absolutely! Explore semester, summer and faculty-led study abroad program options. We also offer an incredibly unique program called Global Scholars, which is a four-year program that begins your first semester freshman year in Bologna, Italy, with three additional international experiences. This includes Creighton’s own campus in the Dominican Republic.  

What is the deadline for choosing a college? 

• The National Candidates Reply Date is May 1. 

What does the deadline mean? 

• Colleges hold space in their class, offers of admission, financial aid and academic scholarship for students through May 1. Early Decision acceptances and athletic scholarships are the only exceptions to this rule. 

What if I decide on a college before May 1? 

• Terrific! You are more than welcome to commit to an institution before May 1. We’d be really, really happy if that school was Creighton! Either way, you will have a stress-free Decision Day if you have already chosen a school. 

Can I tell a school I’m not considering them anymore? 

• Yes! We know it can be awkward to let a college representative know you aren’t considering their school anymore. However, as you narrow your list, you are encouraged to let schools know if they aren’t on your radar anymore. 

Why can’t I deposit at multiple schools? 

• Submitting a deposit is stating your intent to enroll at that school. Since you can’t attend multiple institutions, it’s considered unethical. Institutions reserve the right to rescind an offer of admission if they discover the student has made a double deposit. 

Is my deposit refundable? 

• Be sure to ask at each of the institutions you are considering, as it varies school to school. Creighton’s deposit is nonrefundable. 

How much is the deposit? 

• Once again, be sure to ask each school, as it is determined by each institution. At Creighton, the deposit is $400. $350 is essentially paying tuition early and $50 is a housing application fee for on-campus residence halls. 

Do I get better housing if I deposit early? 

• No. Everyone who deposits at Creighton by May 1 goes into the same housing lottery. Schools that don’t have room for all first-year students on campus must make housing deposits refundable if you decide not to enroll. They can’t use housing as a way to coerce making a nonrefundable deposit. (Creighton freshmen are guaranteed housing.)

How do I know if I’m a transfer student? 

• Transfer students have 1) been out of high school for at least one semester and 2) been enrolled at another college or university. High school students who have taken AP exams or dual credits are not considered transfer students. All transfer students should complete this application. 

Am I considered a transfer student if I previously attended Creighton and want to apply for readmission? 

• Yes, and whether you have taken college courses since last attending Creighton, you will need to reapply as a transfer student. If you’ve earned college credit elsewhere in the meantime, you’ll also need to submit any new or recent transcripts from the awarding institution(s) along with your application. You do not, however, need to submit high school transcripts or the counselor evaluation, as these credentials will still be on file. 

I applied to Creighton as a freshman and was accepted. I attended elsewhere, however. Do I need to reapply as a transfer student now? 

• Even if you have been previously admitted to Creighton as a freshman student, you will need to reapply as a transfer student now. We will also need your finalized official high school transcripts (when you previously applied, your high school transcripts probably didn’t include grades from your last semester of high school), as well as your recent college transcripts. 

Does Creighton have an application deadline for transfer students? 

• No. We admit students on a rolling basis. However, we strongly encourage you to submit your complete application by July 1 if you plan on enrolling for the following fall semester and by December 1 if you plan on enrolling for the spring semester. The earlier you apply, the more options you’ll have in terms of classes and housing. 

What is required to complete the application process for transfer students? 

• A completed application 
• Your final official high school transcript, including the scale on which you were graded, sent directly from your high school 
• All your official college and/or university transcripts, even if you withdrew from the courses 
• A college official’s report, completed by a dean of students, registrar or academic advisor. This verifies that you’re in good academic and disciplinary standing with your institution. 
• A personal statement addressing why you are looking to transfer to another institution 
• Optional: your resume and letters of recommendation 
• Optional: ACT or SAT exam scores 

I’ve been out of high school for more than a year. Do I need to send my high school transcripts along with my application? 

• Yes. If you have already applied to Creighton, be sure that the high school transcripts we have are the final official high school transcripts. 

What is the college official’s report? 

• The College Official’s Report verifies that you are in good academic and disciplinary standing with your institution. This doesn’t necessarily need to be an advisor or professor you have worked closely with; it can be completed by a dean of students, registrar or academic advisor. 

Can I transfer college credit hours to Creighton? If so, how many credits hours can I transfer? 

• Creighton generally accepts credits from other accredited post-secondary institutions, if you earned a C or better in a given course. Generally, the college you apply to determines how each specific course transfers. A course may fulfill specific core requirements or garner elective credit.  A maximum of 80 credit hours may be transferred to Creighton, and you must take 48 credit hours at Creighton to receive a Creighton degree. Do I have to send college transcripts if I don’t think my credit hours will transfer, or don’t want them to? 

• Yes, you must send all your post-secondary transcripts to the Office of Admissions. 

How long does the application review process take? 

• Once our Admissions Office has received your complete application, including all supplemental materials, the review process takes anywhere from about four to six weeks. 

Are scholarships and/or financial aid available to transfer students? 

• Absolutely! Merit-based scholarships (mostly awarded for post-secondary academic performance) are available to transfer students. We automatically consider all transfer students for scholarships, although it should be noted, such scholarships are limited. Transfer students are also eligible to receive financial aid in the form of need-based grants, federal loans and work-study. To be considered, please submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to Creighton. 

What are my housing options? 

• Freshmen and sophomores, unless from the Omaha metro area, are required to live on campus and are guaranteed Creighton housing. Upperclassman housing for juniors and seniors is located within Opus Hall and houses up to 280 students. Students can apply for upperclassman housing and/or join a waitlist. Most mid-year transfers are able to secure upperclassman housing if desired.

How do I register for classes? 

• Once admitted, you must complete your class reservation paperwork (included with your admittance packet), plus make a $400 admissions deposit ($300 if you intend to live off campus). After you make the deposit and class reservation via the Student Portal,  you will be able to register for classes, assuming that registration for the intended semester has indeed begun. These processes will involve close contact with your Creighton transfer advisor (details below). 

What is TSC 105? 

• The Success Center 105, or TSC 105, is a course especially designed to assist transfer students in successfully transitioning into collegiate life at Creighton. The course invites students to “examine key elements of collegiate life, including the meaning and value of a liberal arts education; Creighton’s Jesuit, Catholic history and key Ignatian values; and the vocational aspirations and challenges common to transfer students.” 

How can I get involved on  campus? 

• Creighton has a variety of student clubs, organizations, intramural sports teams and social activities. See what we offer. You’re highly encouraged to attend Skutt Shutdown, which is our yearly involvement fair.

What application do international students need to complete to be considered for admission to Creighton? 

• All of our applicants, international students included, need to complete the same application. 

Does Creighton require international applicants to submit proof of English language proficiency? 

• Yes, all international students must submit an English language proficiency exam. We accept the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE and Duolingo. We may also be able to use other factors, including education, other test options, ESL program completion letters, etc.  

Is financial aid available to international students? 

• We offer substantial merit-based scholarships to international students, as well as an interest-free payment plan. Find out more about scholarship opportunities and financial aid at Creighton. 

Am I required to live on Creighton’s campus? 

• Yes, all full-time, unmarried, undergraduate students from outside the Omaha metro area are required to live in University residence halls during their first two years at Creighton. Living on campus makes it much easier to make friends and get involved in student activities. 

Am I required to purchase a University health insurance plan? 

• Yes, we do require all international students to enroll in a University health insurance plan.
