Endowed Assistant, Associate, Professor, Tenure-Track or Non-Tenure Track (Clinician Educator). 12-month, full time appointment.

Position Summary:

The Creighton University School of Dentistry is seeking an experienced, dynamic dental educator and innovator who will serve as the Creighton University School of Dentistry Endowed Professor of Digital Innovation and lead efforts in curriculum development, research, and clinical instruction related to digital technologies and artificial intelligence.  This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor.   This position is central to advancing the School’s mission of educating ready oral health professionals, preparing them to lead the profession with cutting-edge knowledge and skills. This newly established endowed professorship is the first of its kind for the School of Dentistry and supports multiple aspects of the school’s strategic plan. This individual will hold appointments across multiple departments within the school, and report directly to the Dean of the School. 

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and hands-on preclinical and clinical instruction in all aspects of digital dentistry, including use of AI tools for treatment planning across all disciplines. 
  • Integrate digital workflows and innovations within didactic and clinical curricula across all disciplines, including but not limited to CAD/CAM, intraoral scanning, 3D printing, digital radiography, CBCT, and implant planning.

Curriculum Development:

  • Working in partnership with department chairs and school administration, develop and continuously refine course content that reflects current and emerging technologies in digital dentistry and artificial intelligence.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and course directors to embed digital content, appropriate assessment and competencies throughout the dental curriculum. Develop and support student progression in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Conduct and publish original research in the field of digital dentistry and dental technology innovation.
  • Seek extramural funding to support research initiatives and collaborate with other units on campus to develop opportunities for program development, i.e. CPCE for lifelong learning, and Werner Center for Simulation experiences and inter-professional learning opportunities.

Clinical Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor students in digital technology, both pre-clinical and clinical.
  • Assist in development of senior digital clinical experiences for advanced learners.
  • Ensure quality assurance and adherence to best practices in digital treatment planning and execution. Reporting to the Dean, this position will assist in the development of clinical calibration materials for faculty participating in teaching.

Service and Leadership:

  • Participate in school, and university committees as assigned.
  • Provide leadership in faculty development and training in all aspects of digital technologies.
  • Represent the school at local and national and international meetings
  • Engage in professional development and remain current in the field of dental technology.

Qualifications

Required:

  • DDS or DMD degree from an ADA CODA accredited institution or an equivalent degree from an international program combined with an ADA CODA accredited certificate of completion in applicable dental specialties; or a DDS or DMD degree from an ADA CODA accredited institution with ADA CODA accredited post graduate training in Advanced General Dentistry or demonstrated applicable digital experience deemed commensurate with post-graduate training.
  • Successful completion of Part I and Part II of the National Board Dental Examination or the Integrated National Board Dental Examination prior to the date of hire.
  • Candidates must possess an unrestricted Nebraska Dental License or be eligible to obtain an unrestricted Nebraska Dental License in a category for which they are eligible and also acquire credentialing from applicable third-party payer systems.
  • Candidates must also possess strong organizational and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Specialty certificate from an ADA CODA accredited and applicable specialty program.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MS, PhD, EdD) notable in educational technologies and simulation tools.
  • Certificate from an ADA CODA accredited post graduate program in General Dentistry (AEGD/GPR); or a multi-year general dentistry commitment as part of military service with experiential evidence of course assignments in clinical, laboratory, classroom teaching of a digital curriculum.
  • Prior history of full-time or >50 % dental academic position with experiential evidence of course assignments in clinical, laboratory, classroom teaching support of digital curriculum.
