Day 1: Friday, September 8, 2023
Sleep disordered breathing prevalence is ever increasing and has a significant disease burden but adherence with conventional PAP therapy remains a challenge. This meeting will highlight the latest research on alternative treatment strategies with emphasis on pharmacological interventions for treatment of sleep disorders. The field of sleep medicine is evolving fast and significant technological advancements are being made. We will discuss the current and future clinical implications of artificial intelligence and its value in diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The second session of the meeting will integrate literature review and outline relevant updates, articles and guidelines in the last year along with a discussion of pharmacological agents for treatment of insomnia and hypersomnia. The final session will review management of sleep disordered breathing in neuromuscular diseases, pediatric down syndrome patients and hospitalized patients along with a discussion on PAP downloads and comparing mask interfaces.
OBJECTIVES
- Summarize various pharmacotherapeutic developments for treatment of sleep disordered breathing and chronic weight management.
- Explore the scope of integrating artificial intelligence in the clinical practice of sleep medicine.
- Review significant updates and advancements in the field of sleep medicine in the last year.
- Discuss updates on pharmacological agents for treating hypersomnia and insomnia.
- Review guidelines on respiratory management with mechanical ventilation in neuromuscular diseases and evidence-based recommendations.
- Assess the intricacies of PAP download indices and their use for treatment optimization.
- Overview of the management of sleep apnea in trisomy 21 patients.
- Recognize the need for nasal evaluation and the importance of nasal obstruction management in sleep apnea.
- Discuss various tools for early screening and management strategies for obstructive sleep apnea in hospitalized patients.
- Identify the differences between nasal and full-face mask interfaces and their impact on outcomes.
