Terhune, MD, MBA, FACS</h3><p>Dr. Terhune joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2011 and is a Professor of Surgery and Anesthesiology. She currently is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education for the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, and is the Senior Vice President for Educational Affairs and the ACGME/NRMP Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for VUMC. Her clinical surgery practice is &nbsp;currently focused on Emergency General Surgery. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p><p>Dr. Terhune completed her residency in General Surgery and fellowship in Critical Care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. &nbsp;She &nbsp;served as Program Director of the Surgery Residency from 2014 to 2019 when she became the DIO for the GME program, which consists of over 150 residencies and fellowships. She also served as Chief of General Surgery at the VA Medical Center from 2016 until 2019.</p><p>Dr. Terhune is a national leader in graduate medical education, giving lectures throughout the country. She is a Past President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and has consulted with GME programs to review practices and policies. She has received several distinguished teaching awards at the local and national level, including the inaugural David Leach Award from the ACGME in 2010 and the Philip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award from the Association for Surgical Education in 2021.</p><p>Dr. Terhune received her A.B. degree in molecular biology from Princeton University and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she received the I.S. Ravdin Award in Surgery.
