Mentors must reflect upon and identify characteristics of effective communication, as well as take time to practice communication skills with their mentees<br /> &nbsp;</li> <li><em>Thursday Nov 30, 2023 10:00-11:00 am CT</em><br /> <strong>Research Mentoring #2: Aligning Expectations </strong><br /> A shared understanding of what each person expects is critical to establishing effective mentor-mentee relationships. Ongoing reflection and communication about expectations is needed to maintain positive and productive mentoring relationships.<br /> &nbsp;</li> <li><em>Thursday Feb 15, 2024 10:00-11:00 am CT</em><br /> <strong>Research Mentoring #3: Assessing Understanding </strong><br /> Determining if someone understands the content and process of their discipline is not easy, yet extremely critical in an effective mentoring relationship. Strategies to assess understanding, especially of core research concepts, is essential to being a mentor.<br /> &nbsp;</li> <li><em>Thursday May 16, 2024 10:00-11:00 am CT</em><br /> <strong>Research Mentoring #4: Fostering Independence </strong><br /> An important goal of research mentors should be guiding their mentee to independence.
