Description

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) at Creighton University School of Medicine is expanding its cancer research enterprise and invite applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the Associate Professor level or above.  We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated track record of creativity and excellence including extramural support who invesitage the fields of cancer biology with the long-term goal of developing novel approaches for the treatment of cancer.  While all areas of cancer biology will be considered, research areas involving cutting edge omics technologies in genetics, genomics, and single-cell biology as it applies to cancer biology: developing animal and non-animal models of tumorgenesis; and development of novel clinical applications for the diagnosis and/or treatment of cancer, are encouraged to apply.

BMS is a dymanic and interdisciplinary department committed to excellence in research, education, and service.  BMS faculty research areas also include cancer, aging, hearing and hearing loss, neuroscience, and peptide structure/function, while fostering collaborative research opportunities across the university. 

The Department offers strong PhD and MS graduate programs, and faculty members who are actively involved in training Creighton undergraduate, MS, PhD, and MD students in their laboratory research as well as educating graduate and healthcare professional students using innovative teaching methods.  Creighton University is home of the Henry Lynch Cancer Center, named for long-time Creighton University researcher and founder of hereditary cancer, Dr. Henry Lynch.  The university also supports numerous research core facilities including the Lynch Biorepository, flow cytometry and cell sorting, advanced microscopy, histology, mass spectrometry, and intergrative genomics, as well as an extensive array of shared instrumentation for the research community.    The position provides an attractive start-up package and outstanding opportunities for collaboration across the basic science departments (BMS, Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and Pharmacology and Neuroscience) and translational investigators at affiliate hospitals.

The successful candidate will bring and maintain a rigorous, externally funded research program that complements and enhances the existing strengths in cancer biology within the department and across the School of Medicine.  Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching in the lab and the classroom, contribute to graduate student instruction in their area of expertise and participate in team-taught courses for professional students as well as participation in Departmental, School of Medicine and Creighton Univerity committees and administrative activities.  Faculty members are expected to actively participate in professional organizations relevant to their area of scientific expertise.   

Rank and salary commensurate with education and experience. 

Qualifications

  • Ph D, M.D, or M.D./Ph D required
  • A strong track record or research accomplishments and extramural funding is a must.
