The IPH hosted a half-day symposium in Phoenix this past October. Beyond Barriers: Advancing Population Health in Arizona brought national, regional and local health executives and professionals together to discuss innovations in healthcare delivery and training to advance health equity and improve access to care.

Attendees heard from keynote speakers Nana Coleman, MD, EdM, system senior vice president of academic and faculty affairs, Physician Enterprise, and chief academic officer at CommonSpirit Health and Helen Hughes, MD, MPH, medical director, Office of Telemedicine, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and medical director, Pediatric Telemedicine, Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.  The speakers highlighted the critical role of incorporating health equity in innovative models of medical education and clinical care.

Executives from Valleywise Health, Dignity Health, St. Vincent de Paul, and Arizona BCBS rounded out the excellent speakers, all focusing on system-level efforts to address inequities in health for Arizonans.  Faculty leaders from the Creighton Phoenix campus rounded out the day’s events with their insights on the university’s role in training, service, and research to advance health equity.
