New Name, Enduring Commitment: Welcome to Creighton & Community
The Institute for Population Health (IPH) has completed the remodel of Creighton’s space inside the Highlander Accelerator at 2221 N. 30th Street and formally adopted a new name for the space: Creighton & Community at the Highlander, better reflecting the work done there.
April Dixon, North Omaha community engagement director, notes that though the name has changed, Creighton & Community remains a center for community-driven health engagement in North Omaha through strong partnerships, prevention-focused programming and accessible resources. The IPH community engagement team, located at the Highlander, focuses on the North and South Omaha communities.
“Our mission to connect community members to quality Creighton programs that support families, health and well-being remains as strong as ever,” Dixon says. “The new name more accurately reflects our commitment to the people we share space with and interact with on a daily basis.”
Child Safety Center & Blood Pressure Hub
Creighton & Community at the Highlander includes the Child Safety Center, opened in November 2025 in partnership with Children’s Nebraska, and community health navigator services to help connect Highlander community members with resources and support. It has also partnered with the American Heart Association as a Blood Pressure Screening Hub, providing a free blood pressure screening station, heart health education and referrals for follow-up care when needed.
Additional programming is guided in cooperation with the Creighton & Community Community Advisory Board (CCCAB) to support meaningful, action-oriented community engagement by informing the design, implementation and continuous improvement of programs at the Highlander. The team established the CCCAB to ensure that community members are consulted and actively engaged as partners in decision-making processes that affect programs and services at Creighton’s Highlander space, which are intended to improve their health and well-being.
The CCCAB hosted a meet-and-greet in May focused on child safety. The event brought together 11 community-based organizations to showcase services and resources available to families, including Families of the Stolen (F.O.T.S.), Molina Healthcare, Omaha Public Power District, Omaha Fire Department, Children’s Nebraska, Charles Drew Health Center, Coalition Rx, Nebraska Total Care, UV&Me and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Creighton has offered community programming in the space since 2018. The IPH assumed operation in late 2023 and pursued a grant to remodel the space and reconfigure programming in partnership with community-based organizations and with those who live and work in the community to better address identified needs.
