Volunteers Needed!

Serve a meal and meet our neighbors at Siena Francis House, Nebraska’s largest provider of services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Creighton volunteers fill a variety of roles– serving a meal, practicing hospitality, and/or organizing items in the pantry. You will need to register on the Siena Francis House’s volunteer portal. For the safety of Siena Francis House guests, volunteers must wear a mask to serve with this community partner. Questions? Email at volunteer@sienafrancis.org or call (402) 341-1821.

Refugee Empowerment Center (REC) is a refugee resettlement agency that provides holistic and culturally effective refugee resettlement services that empower newcomers to thrive in their new lives. Last year they welcomed over 600 refugees from around the world! Volunteers can serve in a variety of ways, including setting up homes, moving furniture, grocery shopping, welcoming arriving refugee families at the airport, assisting in the job center etc. This is a great opportunity for groups! Questions? Email Email Nikki at nikki@refugeeempowerment.org

The SSVP Pantry needs “Garden Angel” volunteers to help maintain our vegetable garden, located at 2101 Leavenworth Street. Volunteers plant, water, remove weeds and harvest the vegetables that are then given away in our adjacent food pantry. No gardening experience is needed. The garden’s volunteer schedule is from 8:30/9:00 until no later than 11:00 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays – through the middle of October. If you are even thinking about becoming a “Garden Angel” volunteer, please contact Pat Slaven at mpslaven035@gmail.com. Pat can answer any questions you may have.

The Educational Opportunity Center is currently seeking volunteers to work one-on-one with our adult GED learners. We specifically have a need for individuals who can tutor in the math subject but do need help in all areas. Please contact Sam Brown at sambrown1@creighton.edu or 402-280-3300 if you are interested in this opportunity.

Camp Kesem is currently seeking camp counselors for a completely free summer camp for children with parents or caregivers who have or have had cancer. The camp will take place at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from August 5th-9th. As a counselor you will be responsible for working with other counselors and unit leaders in your unit to make sure the kids are safe and having fun. If you would like to get involved, but are unable to be a counselor, please email unl@kesem.org for more information.
