Through a proactive, holistic approach, our staff create opportunities for students to thrive academically, maximize learning and strengthen overall success. If you have questions, please email the Office of Academic Success.

Tutoring Resources

Tutoring offers every student—whether they’re struggling or excelling—an opportunity to deepen their understanding of course materials, ask questions in a low-pressure environment and learn from peers who have successfully completed the same courses. Creighton’s Office of Academic Success tutors are students who have demonstrated academic excellence and are endorsed by course instructors. They adapt their approach to each student’s learning style, clarify challenging topics and help build confidence and independent learning skills. A range of free tutoring options is available, including support for specific courses, to help students reinforce their knowledge, prepare for exams and grow as learners.

If you’re a current Creighton student, you can schedule an appointment. If you have questions about tutoring or would like to request support for a specific class, please email the Office of Academic Success staff. You can also apply to become a student tutor through Handshake; just use the search term “student tutor.”

Options for Tutoring

1:1 Tutoring

Students can meet with a tutor in person or online up to five times a week to discuss study strategies, review course content and prepare for exams.

Communication Center Tutoring

These in-person sessions focus on organizing, developing and delivering public presentations.

Drop-in Tutoring

During these in-person sessions, tutors assist with select biology, chemistry, math and physics courses. Support includes collaborative study sessions with other students enrolled in similar courses.

Attached Tutoring

Tutors providing this in-person service are assigned to select biology, chemistry, exercise science, math and physics courses. They attend class, take notes and hold two study sessions per week throughout the semester.

Supplemental Instruction

This type of tutoring is available in person and online for select nursing courses. Tutors work closely with faculty members, attend class, take notes and deliver weekly supplemental lessons that reinforce key concepts.

Additional Support

Academic Advising

Academic advising at Creighton is a coordinated, relationship-based experience designed to support students from their first semester through graduation. As students progress in their academic journey, advising is aligned with their major or graduate program, with faculty advisors in their college guiding:

  • Course selection and registration
  • Academic planning and degree progress
  • Exploration of interests and long-term goals

This work is supported by the Center for Advising Resources and Support, which helps students navigate their options, connect with the right advisors and get the support they need at every stage.

In addition to faculty advising within each major, Creighton offers structured support through the Ratio Studiorum Program for first-year students and dedicated pre-professional advising for those pursuing careers in fields such as law and healthcare. Together, these layers give students the guidance they need to:

  • Plan their coursework with intention
  • Explore potential career paths
  • Make informed decisions about what comes next

Ratio Studiorum Program

The Ratio Studiorum Program (RSP) is Creighton’s distinctive, course-based approach to first-year advising. All first-year students enroll in this one-credit course, taught by a faculty advisor who serves as both instructor and mentor. Through RSP, students are introduced to Creighton’s Jesuit, values-centered approach to education while developing the skills and habits needed for academic success.

More than an introduction to campus resources, RSP provides structured, ongoing advising during a student’s first year (and often beyond). Students work closely with their faculty advisor to build an academic plan, explore majors and career interests, and reflect on their goals and sense of purpose. The program also fosters a close-knit community, giving students a strong sense of connection as they start their Creighton experience.
