The fellowship curriculum is designed to provide a broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as extensive experience in non-invasive and invasive gastroenterology, endoscopic and hepatology procedures. The curriculum is also designed to promote a culture of evidence-based medicine, to teach critical thinking and analysis, and to train fellows to be educators for the community, patients and staff members.
Adequate progression through the curriculum is assessed by evaluating each fellow's ability in the following areas:

- Inpatient Junior (PGY-4/5) - 12 months
- Inpatient Senior (PGY-6) - 5 months
- Inpatient/Outpatient Hepatology - 6 months
- Endoscopy Clinic - 6 months
- Research - 4 months
- Elective - 3 months
Continuity Clinic Sessions 1/2 day per week sessions
Inpatient Junior SJHMC: Fellows are progressively trained in consultative gastroenterology and routine and emergency GI procedures at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Inpatient Junior Valleywise Health: Fellows are progressively trained in consultative gastroenterology and routine and emergency GI procedures at Valleywise Health.
Inpatient/Outpatient Hepatology: Fellows have a broad experience in outpatient and inpatient consultation in liver diseases, including transplant hepatology.
Endoscopy/Clinic - Fellows are progressively trained in endoscopic procedures at MIHS. Fellows will get trained in motility procedures and capsule endoscopy. Fellows get subspecialty GI clinic experience in faculty clinics.
Inpatient Senior SJHMC: Fellows are progressively trained in consultative gastroenterology in pancreatic and biliary disorders in addition to participating in and routine and emergency GI procedures at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Research/Elective: Fellows participate in a research project under supervision of a faculty member. Fellows can also pursue endorsed outside electives such as: i) ANMS motility elective ii) ACG-FDA elective iii) Nestle Nutrition elective iv) IBD elective.
