Assistant Professor - Philosophy

Description

The Department of Philosophy at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The successful applicant will teach a 3-3 course load that includes 1st year core courses in introductory philosophy and 2nd year core courses in introductory ethics, as well as upper division elective courses in their area of expertise, depending on departmental needs. The areas of competence for the position are open, but the department has teaching needs in the philosophy of feminism and Latin American philosophy.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in philosophy (or a closely related field) is required to be in hand by the beginning of the contract
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others
  • An emerging record of scholarship
  • An ability and willingness to contribute to the Catholic and Jesuit educational mission of the university
