Assistant Professor - Physics - Experimental Physics

Description

The Department of Physics at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position. We are seeking candidates who have a background in experimental physics who can support laboratory courses and offer research opportunities for both undergraduate and master’s students.

The Department of Physics at Creighton University offers three undergraduate degrees in physics, biomedical physics, and applied physics and pre-engineering, as well as a master’s degree in physics and a CAMPEP-accredited master’s degree in Medical Physics. Nine full-time tenure track faculty conduct research in diverse disciplines: high energy physics, astrophysics, quantum computing, ultra-cold atoms, physics education, biophysics, and translational medical physics research (https://www.creighton.edu/arts-sciences/physics/facultystaff). The department excels in engaging students in research and is known across campus for its commitment to the Jesuit mission of the university.

We seek individuals with effective communication skills who are committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. Successful applicants will teach a variety of courses within a 3-3 course load; typical teaching responsibilities include core courses in General Physics to upper division and master’s-level courses in a faculty member’s area of expertise, depending on departmental needs. Our faculty value teaching and are knowledgeable about and invested in active-engagement strategies that have been shown to be effective by physics education research. Successful applicants will involve both undergraduate and master’s students in on-site laboratory research (or off-site research in collaboration with national labs or other facilities). Research expectations are commensurate with teaching responsibilities.
