During the May 9-11 commencement ceremonies, nearly 2,000 Creighton University students will walk across the stage, gather their well-earned diplomas and transfer their tassel from right to left to mark the successful conclusion of their academic endeavors. They are students no more but Creighton alumni.

Many of the Class of 2024 entered Creighton under the pandemic’s grip, uncertain of how drastically their campus life and academic settings would be affected. They showed amazing resolve and resilience in making the most of an unprecedented variation in their collegiate experience. Throughout the restrictions and after, they attended class, made life-long friends, participated in campus life and shared their talents with others through service. They did more than survive; they thrived.

The 811 undergraduates will join 1,065 recipients of graduate and professional degrees. Here’s a look at some stats from the class:

  • 50 U.S. states represented
  • 22 countries represented, including the U.S. Top three are India, Canada and Kuwait
  • Top three majors are nursing, biology and exercise science & pre-health professions
  • Top three undergraduate minors are biology, business and Spanish

The Class of 2024 enjoyed banner sports seasons. The Creighton men’s basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, Creighton Volleyball won its 10th straight BIG EAST regular-season title and advanced to its third Sweet 16 since 2015 and Men’s and Women’s Track will be competing in the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time in May. The success Creighton sporting teams had on the playing fields was matched by the student-athletes’ performance in the classroom – the average GPA average hovering around 3.5.

This year’s graduates advanced their knowledge through meaningful research. They gained exposure to different cultures through year-long, semester, summer and break study abroad opportunities. On campus, they traveled vicariously to the Aloha State at the Hui ‘O Hawai’i Club’s sold-out luau and jammed at the annual Lip Sync event. Through the Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, they embraced being men and women for and with others, with more than 600 students participating in local service opportunities and 243 students traveling to 22 communities throughout the U.S. during fall and spring break service and justice trips. They augmented classroom learning with internships, practicums and hands-on learning opportunities.

And they learned how to channel their interests and strengths to make a difference in their fields and in the world. They have done great things at Creighton, and we know they will continue this path in the next stage of their lives.

Congratulations, Class of 2024. You’ve made us proud.
