After the CWS came to Omaha in 1950, it was Omahans who stepped up to keep it here.
Local citizens rallied to support the event financially through its early, uncertain years. In 1967, the community came together again. Led by Creighton alumnus Jack Diesing Sr., they formed the nonprofit College World Series of Omaha, Inc.
That group has continued working with the NCAA, Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, Creighton, and now UNO to build a public-private partnership that strengthens our city. Today, the MCWS generates more than 1,000 year-round jobs and delivered over $115 million in economic impact last year alone.
This tournament is a shining example of how public and private entities in Omaha step up to the plate together to keep something special not just alive but thriving.
