EU ambassador to discuss AI, Ukraine during Creighton visit
Creighton University will host the ambassador of the European Union to the United States, Jovita Neliupšienė, for a special visit and discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
The approximately one-hour event will be held at the Hixson-Lied Auditorium inside the Harper Center on Creighton’s Omaha campus and include remarks as well as a moderated Q&A session.
Topics of discussion will include the war in Ukraine, tariffs and artificial intelligence, among others.
As part of the visit, pieces from an ongoing effort celebrating the ties between Americans and Europeans as part of the United States' 250th anniversary will also be a focus. "The EU Ambassador's Book Collection: Words That Unite, Stories That Connect" features 28 books donated by the ambassador and 27 EU member state ambassadors, forming a collective gift symbolizing friendship and the power of ideas to transcend borders.

About Jovita Neliupšienė
A native of Lithuania, Neliupšienė assumed her current role in 2024 following a long career in public service. In the decade prior, she served Lithuania in a variety of roles, including as vice minister of foreign affairs (2022-2024), vice minister of economy and innovation (2020-2022), chancellor and state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2020), and the country’s ambassador to the European Union (2015-2020).
She also spent time as a lecturer at Vilnius University from 2006 to 2012, specializing in Belarus and Ukrainian studies. During this time, she spent a semester enrolled in courses on Creighton's Omaha campus.

Funded Traineeships
Funded traineeships in diplomatic affairs are being offered to for recent graduates who have earned at least a bachelor's degree. The program will last for up to six months with a tentative start date of November 2026. More details, including eligibility can be found here. The deadline to apply is Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
The Schuman Challenge
The Schuman Challenge is the annual foreign affairs contest for undergraduate students in the United States organized by the EU Delegation to the U.S. It provides an opportunity for teams of 3-4 students to present and defend EU-U.S. policy recommendations on a specific theme in front of a panel of judges. Semi-finalists and finalists will compete in Washington, D.C., in-person for a panel of officials and experts. Registration is now open.
