Partnering with Families to Keep Kids Safe

The Creighton Child Safety Center is committed to helping families and caregivers in our community keep children safe and healthy. Through hands-on education and access to affordable safety items, the center provides resources designed to prevent injuries and promote well-being. 

An initiative from the Institute for Population Health, the center is partnering with parents, caregivers, professionals and organizations to identify needs and create meaningful solutions that make a lasting impact. Explore our resources below.

Open House

Join us for our Open House! We’ll have tours, children’s activities, refreshments, safety info, door prizes and more.

Kids can join in different activities led by Creighton students, plus grab a take-home STEM activity kit.

Be sure to also sign up for giveaways like:

  • A basketball signed by the Creighton Men's Basketball team
  • Creighton Men’s Basketball tickets
  • A family four-pack of tickets to the Omaha Children's Museum

For the adults, Children’s Nebraska will provide:

  • Car seat safety demonstrations
  • Stop the Bleed demonstrations
  • Concussion information
  • Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) resources
  • Hands-only CPR demonstrations

We’ll also have other groups on site, such as:

  • Region 6 with gun locks and medicine lock boxes
  • Nebraska Regional Poison Center, offering educational materials
  • Omaha Fire with a smoke trailer and fire engine
  • Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 with safety information

Safety Equipment (Upcoming)

In the near future, community members will be able to buy reduced-price equipment to make their spaces safer.

Soon, Omaha families will be able to visit the center to shop for things like:

  • Bike/Scooter helmets
  • Outlet covers
  • Door and cabinet latches
  • Window stops and cord safety wraps for window blinds
  • Furniture wall straps
  • Child safety gates
  • Gun and medication lock boxes

Free Safety Training (Upcoming)

The Child Safety Center is working with community partners to provide free safety training for parents and caregivers. Soon, we’ll offer sessions like: 

  • Safe infant sleep training
  • Hands-only CPR training
  • Car seat fittings
  • Stop the Bleed training
