After receiving his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Creighton University in 1990, Dr Cherek also obtained his dental degree from Creighton University in 1996. He subsequently completed an advanced education in general practice residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago Illinois with a focus on treating patients with special needs. There he also worked with the many hospital specialties to provide dental care for those with medically compromised conditions. After moving back to Omaha in 1998, Dr Cherek in Septermber of 1999 came on staff at Creighotn University School of Dentistry as part time adjunct professor in the Department of General Dentistry, while also owning a private practice dental office. In August of 2024, Dr Cherek transitioned from private practice to full time Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Health Promotion. Bringing his almost thirty years of private practice clinical experience to the Creighton University School of Dentistry. He is a member of the ADA, NDA and Omaha District Dental Society. He has also been a member of multiple study groups emphasizing in implant dentistry.
