Adjunct Assistant Professor


Dr. Derek Kruse is an instructor in the marketing and management department at the Creighton University Heider College of Business. His teaching focus is strategy where he has taught both at the undergraduate and graduate levels since 2018. He has a passion for serving students and helping them prepare for fruitful careers as they go out into the world to leverage their Creighton education and experiences. To that end, he also serves as the Chief Information Officer for the Douglas Omaha Technology Commission (DOTComm). DOTComm provides technical support and consulting to over 70 governmental entities in Omaha and Douglas County. Dr. Kruse is responsible for driving operational IT excellence, delivering financial transparency and aligning IT strategy across city and county business objectives.
 
Dr. Kruse has over 25 years of business experience across multiple disciplines with a focus on process improvement, technology enablement, leadership and innovation. He formerly served as Global Process Integration Manager and Division CIO at IBM. His research focuses on corporate social responsibility. He speaks regularly on strategy, technology enablement and community advancement through public/private partnerships. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University where he played varsity basketball for four years, an MBA from Emory’s Goizueta Business School and a DBA from Creighton's Heider College of Business. He also serves on the board of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Nebraska and on the AIM board, which seeks to advance technology awareness in Nebraska. Derek, his wife Dana, and their two children are all native Nebraskans and live in Bennington, NE.
