Katherine A. Meyer Vanicek, DDS, MPH

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Dr. Meyer received her undergraduate degree in biology from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. During her time at Drake, she spent a semester abroad in Spain and after graduation was eager to learn more about Spanish culture, linguistics, and history. She returned to Spain and completed Certificate in Hispanic Studies, a year-long program at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. While she was living abroad, she was intrigued by dentistry as a career and returned to the United States to pursue a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She attended the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska. Post-graduation she worked in private practice for a few years before discovering her passion for community dentistry and working in health clinics that improve access to underserved communities. Following this passion for communities and health, Dr. Meyer continued to work in community clinics while attending classes at the University of Nebraska College of Public Health in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with Master of Public Health. After practicing clinical dentistry for 15 years, Dr. Meyer accepted an Adjunct Assistant Professor clinical faculty position in the Department of Oral Health Promotion at the Creighton University School of Dentistry. She now divides her time between supervising dental students on the clinic floor at the School of Dentistry, precepting students at the Monen Clinic at the Heart Ministry Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and teaching in formal classroom settings. She is passionate about public health, health disparities, access to care, the social and behavioral sciences, culture, language, health communication, and interprofessional practice.
