After receiving her undergraduate degree in biology from Creighton University, in Omaha Nebraska, Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka obtained her dental degree (DDS) from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in 2009. She continued to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program through the United States Air Force at Offutt AFB, NE. Over the next ten years, Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka provided dental care in various Air Force dental clinics throughout the United States. She became actively involved with mentorship of junior dentists during this time and assisted the residency program during her return to Offutt AFB in 2015.  Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka also completed an Advanced Clinical Dentistry preceptorship during her time in the Air Force.

Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka separated from the Air Force in 2020 and immediately transitioned into academia at the Creighton University School of Dentistry as an Assistant Professor taking on responsibilities as a clinical team leader.
