Tutoring

Academic Success offers free peer tutoring in a wide range of courses and formats to help you thrive in your learning. Our tutors—recommended by instructors for their strong academic performance—adapt their approach to fit your learning style, clarify challenging concepts, and support your academic confidence.

Tutoring isn’t just for students who are struggling; it’s an opportunity to deepen your understanding of course material, ask questions in a low‑pressure environment, and learn from peers who have successfully taken the same classes. Whether you’re aiming to reinforce what you know, prepare for upcoming exams, or simply refine your study strategies, tutoring provides a supportive, judgment‑free space to grow as a learner.

The Office of Academic Success collaborates with campus partners such as the Writing Center, Communication Center, and other academic support services to provide students with comprehensive support. Through BlueSuccess, our shared appointment and tutoring platform, students can schedule tutoring appointments and access a variety of peer-support services across campus, including appointments for our Success Hubs!

Provides individualized academic support to students by explaining concepts, reviewing course material, and guiding study strategies. Tutors adapt their approach to each student’s learning style, clarify difficult topics, and help build confidence and independent learning skills. Responsibilities may include preparing for sessions, offering feedback, and tracking student progress.

In the drop‑in tutoring environment, students can stop by without an appointment to ask questions, work through challenging material, listen to common course struggles, or study alongside peers in a collaborative group setting. Tutors circulate among students, offer individualized guidance as needed, and help foster a welcoming, productive learning atmosphere.

Attached tutoring is available for select courses and is an unlimited, free resource available to students. What differentiates attached tutoring from drop-in tutoring is that attached tutors typically attend the classes of their assigned faculty/course section(s) throughout the semester and host tutoring sessions for that professor’s students. Students may come and go from their assigned AT session as needed, either to ask specific questions or simply to study—no appointment needed. Attached Tutors create a welcoming, flexible learning space by balancing group review with individualized support.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders facilitate interactive, student-centered study sessions designed to help students strengthen their understanding of course material and improve their learning strategies. Through collaborative activities, guided discussions, and practice opportunities, SI sessions encourage active learning, critical thinking, and peer engagement.

Rather than re-teaching course content, SI Leaders help students identify effective ways to learn, apply concepts, and prepare for assessments. SI sessions provide a supportive environment where students can build confidence, develop independent learning skills, and connect with peers who are working toward the same academic goals.
