Creighton in the Dominican Republic

The Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC)

Bluejays can learn and serve in the Dominican Republic through Creighton's Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC). For more than 50 years, students have taken part in these experiences through Creighton-ILAC and our long-standing partnership with Centro de Educación para la Salud Integral (CESI). This deeply rooted partnership makes it possible for you to live, learn and work alongside local communities.

Through ILAC, you’ll take part in immersive programs focused on service, healthcare and cultural understanding, working alongside local communities on projects, known as proyecticos, that respond to real needs.

The Campus

Creighton students learn, work and stay on the CESI campus, which is located in a suburb of Santiago de los Caballeros (Santiago), a city in the northern Dominican Republic. The campus includes classrooms and offices, residence halls and guest cottages. Facilities include a dining hall, chapel, laundry room, volleyball court, running track, workout area and several open spaces for studying or rest. While Creighton doesn't own the campus, the University does have ILAC staff in the Dominican Republic who work on the campus. They partner with CESI and support Creighton students who visit the Dominican Republic.

Explore the campus with the 360° views below.

Visiting Your Student

If you are interested in visiting your student while they are in the Dominican Republic (DR), make sure they have consulted the program schedule to avoid planning your visit during campo immersions or required academic trips.

To stay at the ILAC Center during your visit, please complete the ILAC/CESI reservation form. Note that the campus cannot host visitors during the Christmas and New Year holiday, and the center operates with reduced staff during the Easter holiday. If you are planning to visit during the Easter holiday, please contact ILAC Center staff about availability.

After you receive a reservation confirmation, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the required customs and migration form before your first flight to the DR. (If you need help, watch this how-to video). Upon completion, make sure the QR code is ready to scan when you check in for your flight and upon arrival to customs in the DR. You may be denied entry to the DR without the completed form.
  2. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the end of your travel dates.
  3. Prepare for your trip by reviewing the U.S. Department of State Country Info Sheet and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) traveler information for the Dominican Republic.
