Electronic Submission Resources

Many grant agencies conduct their business electronically. Most federal grant proposals are required to be submitted electronically, and subsequent grant business is also completed online.

Faculty and staff are asked to check grant program guidelines closely to determine whether electronic proposal submission is required and, if so, contact Sponsored Programs Administration staff as soon as possible to allow time for the necessary administrative preparations. Each proposal submission offers unique challenges that we can help resolve, saving you time and effort.

Electronic Systems

National Science Foundation (NSF)

  • Research.gov
  • PI must register to access system; Sponsored Programs Administration must approve all registrations.
  • Sponsored Programs Administration officially submits all applications.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

  • eRA Commons (for grant administration and report submission)
  • PI must contact Sponsored Programs Administration to obtain an eRA Commons username, which is used for both eRA Commons and ASSIST.
  • Sponsored Programs Administration officially submits all applications through InfoEd.
  • eRA Commons and Login.gov
To make eRA user accounts more secure with two-factor authentication (also known as multi-factor authentication), eRA has moved to the use of Login.gov. This option can be used instead of an eRA account username and password to access eRA modules. The document linked above includes detailed steps and screenshots for the initial setup and ongoing use of Login.gov for eRA Commons.

Department of Defense (DoD)

  • eBRAP (for pre-application submission; full applications are submitted through InfoEd)
  • PI must register to access system; Sponsored Programs Administration must approve all registrations.

Proposal Central

  • Proposal Central is a website for finding, applying for and tracking grants offered by more than 100 non-profit and government funding organizations in health, biomedical and scientific research. They are an e-grantmaking website shared by many government, non-profit, and private grant-making organizations.
  • Individuals create their own Proposal Central accounts. Sponsored Programs Administration does not have to approve these accounts.
  • Help information for creating an account and starting an application is available at the Proposal Central website.
  • Depending on the funding guidelines, Sponsored Programs Administration may need to obtain the Associate Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship's digital signature for submissions.
