Home of the Reuben sandwich, the College World Series, and Warren Buffett, Omaha is the longest-running Magis Catholic Teacher Corps community. The Omaha Magis Community began in 2002 with the program’s first cohort and has since served Catholic elementary and high schools across the Archdiocese of Omaha, from St. Francis in Humphrey to St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago, St. Michael School in South Sioux City, and Gross Catholic in Bellevue. Magis teachers live together in a centrally located community home that serves as a “home base” for Magis teachers visiting the city throughout the year and anchors the broader Magis network.
Magis teachers have served at numerous schools over the years, including Holy Name, Sacred Heart, All Saints, Jesuit Academy, St. Cecilia Cathedral School, St. Pius X / St. Leo School, St James Seton, Roncalli Catholic, Creighton Prep, Gross Catholic High School, Marian High School, several schools in the Omaha Catholic School Consortium, and many others. Dozens of loyal alumni continue to teach and lead in Omaha Catholic schools, several at their original placement sites, extending the Magis mission through deep roots and long-term commitment to Catholic education in the metro area. It is also common for recent Magis teachers to have been taught by Magis teachers when they were in school, creating a full-circle connection in Catholic education in the city.
