Magis in Pine Ridge, SD

From the River City to the Prairie

The Pine Ridge Magis Community began in 2007 with Cohort 6, all teaching at Maȟpíya Lúta Owáyawa | Red Cloud Indian School, a fellow Jesuit school in the Midwest Province of Jesuits. Since then, the program expanded to teach at the Elementary and Middle School and Wíŋyaŋ Wakȟáŋ Owáyawa | Our Lady of Lourdes School in Porcupine, SD.

Magis teachers in Pine Ridge simultaneously participate in the Red Cloud Volunteer Program, focusing on justice, Lakota culture and simplicity, in addition to the community, spirituality and academic components of Magis Catholic Teacher Corps. Many Red Cloud Magis teachers have stayed beyond their two-year commitment and one of the most exciting experiences involves obtaining a CDL license to drive the school bus.
