Tim P. McMahon is an experienced marketing communications executive; he is an accomplished marketer and communicator, having founded and managed an award-winning marketing services firm for more than a decade and serving in top marcomm jobs at Fortune 100 companies. He has led sustainable growth in large-scale multinationals and small businesses using effective strategy and emerging technology.
He has published in integrated communication in the highly acclaimed book Reputation Management (Routledge 2007; 2009, 2015, and 2021), Published in Vietnamese edition 2023. He authored Fostering Employee Buy-In Through Effective Leadership Communication (Routledge 2022) and Comparing Charismatic Leaders Communication Styles: a Study of Presidents Barack Obama and Donald J. Trump (Routledge 2024). He is contracted to author Martech Management: Aligning Technology with Business Strategy (Fall 2025).
He is a lifelong learner and has focused on the challenges of higher education and learning for more than a decade as a professor, consultant, and practitioner with special attention to new technology, especially Generative AI. He founded an award-winning marketing services firm and served as a senior officer in corporate America. He returned to earn an MA in strategic communication and leadership from Seton Hall and a PhD in leadership from Gonzaga University. He has taught at a variety of state and private universities, large and small, both online and in the classroom. He was an invited lecturer at universities in China (2015-2019), India (2020-21), and Vietnam (2024).
Further, he has held key leadership positions, leading learning initiatives and advancing experiential learning, resulting in two curriculum fixtures--the iJay Practicum (retail operation) and the J Blue Practicum (Advertising/PR Agency), real-world operating companies managed by students. He has also served as a senior officer in marketing and communication at a national financial services firm, a state university during the transition of a new president, and a national aviation firm, establishing a leadership program for the growing company. He also coaches chief executives and senior marketing executives.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities in undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and executive programs at Creighton, McMahon teaches graduate courses in integrated marketing at New York University. He has taught at Seton Hall University (strategic communication), Elon University (public relations and strategic communication), St. Joseph's University (nationally-recognized food marketing program)
He is a sought-after consultant in business and higher education. He helps clients develop trustworthy relationships with key constituencies, communicate effectively at all levels, build sustainable brands, improve organizational performance, foster culture, and develop leadership. In the wake of landmark legislation in college sports, McMahon developed Personal Branding - NIL, a course for student-athletes coping with the challenges of capitalizing on the new opportunity. He created a case study, Emma's Dilemma: Mastering the NIL Game, to be published by the Case Centre (England) in Spring 2025.
