Summer Research Scholarships
Step outside the classroom and conduct your own individual research project with a faculty mentor. The History Department Summer Research Scholarships support independent, mentored work by undergraduate students. Made possible by a generous donation from a history alum, the program offers a $3,500 stipend and $500 for travel or research materials.
Recently, Summer Research Scholars have traveled to the Smithsonian Archives in Washington, D.C. and to the Mission Houses Archives in Honolulu. This archival research has become the basis for papers presented at professional conferences and for continuing work in graduate programs.
If you are interested in this competitive opportunity, you must:
- Declare a History major or minor
- Find a mentor in the department
- Develop a project idea
- Submit an application to the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURAS)
- Get funded and do the research!
For more information, please contact CURAS or the chair of the Department of History.
