Associate Professor

Joseph V. Franco, Jr., D.D.S. Dr. Franco is the Assistant Dean, Interim Director of Clinics and an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Sciences. He graduated from Creighton earning his BA’80 and D.D.S.’84.While completing his undergraduate work at Creighton University, Dr. Franco earned Academic All American honors in baseball. Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Franco completed a General Practice Residency program at the V.A. Medical Center in Omaha. Since 1985, Dr. Franco has been in private practice while also working as a part time instructor at the dental school in the Fixed Prosthetic and the General Dentistry departments. While in private practice, Dr. Franco served on the medical staff of the Immanuel Medical Center and until his retirement was the On Call dentist for Lakeside Hospital covering oral trauma at high school sporting events. Dr. Franco received his 25 year faculty service award from Creighton in 2011. Dr. Franco was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society in 1992. Following 29 years of private practice, Dr. Franco accepted a full time faculty position and is excited to bring his knowledge of private practice to the students in both the classroom and the clinical setting. Dr. Franco recently completed the ADEA/AAL Institute for Teaching and Learning course. Dr. Franco is course director for DAR 214 Dental Assisting and Radiology Clinic, DAR 316 Junior Assessment Clinic, DAR 416 Senior Assessment Clinic, DAR 331 Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and CPD 331 Practice Management. In 2017, Dr. Franco received his certificate for completing the Orofacial Pain Continuum at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. In August of 2018, Dr. Franco was named Assistant Dean, Interim Director of Clinics by the Dean of the School of dentistry.
