Dr. Fitzpatrick holds a BSN from Georgetown University, a MS in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from The Ohio State University, a PhD in Nursing from NYU, and an MBA from CWRU. She has received two honorary doctorates and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the National Academies of Practice, and an Honorary Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is widely published in nursing and health care literature with over 400 publications, including more than 85 books and has received the AJN Book of the Year Award 22 times. In 2014, Dr. Fitzpatrick was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame and in 2016 was named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing. In 2019, Dr. Fitzpatrick received the International Council of Nurses Florence Nightingale award for global contributions to the profession.
Dr. Fitzpatrick’s current research passion is Narrative Nursing, an intervention she has implemented with nurses and nurse leaders in a variety of practice settings to enhance the meaningfulness of their professional experience and provide peer support to enhance nurse well-
