All medical students will spend assigned weeks on surgery under the supervision of an attending physician. During this experience, the student will be an integral part of the surgeon’s team.

On this rotation, medical students will be exposed to trauma resuscitation in the emergency room, operative management, and non-operative management of the trauma patient. Our team emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach for trauma patient care. Attending staff members, who supervise this service, provide trauma and general surgical expertise to the team.
A private practice group of physicians supervise this service, providing expertise and clinical experience in colorectal surgery while allowing medical students to maximize their experience by using multiple facilities.

Patient care management is provided on this very busy service by general surgery residents and fellows in bariatric and colorectal surgery. Attending staff members, who supervise this service, provide expertise and clinical experience in bariatric, colorectal and oncologic surgery to the team on this rotation.
Medical students learn the fundamentals of orthopedic surgery and become familiar with case presentations. Student may travel between CHI Health facilities in the Omaha area to maximize their orthopedic exposure.

Located at the CHI CUMC Bergan Mercy campus, under the guidance of senior surgical residents and attending staff members, medical students learn basic surgical techniques in general, laparoscopic, surgical oncology, thoracic and esophageal surgery.
