The new dean of Creighton’s College of Professional and Continuing Education is Gayla Stoner, PhD. She begins her tenure on Feb. 1.

Stoner comes to Creighton from Northern Arizona University, where she serves as vice provost and dean for Online and Innovative Educational Initiatives, providing operational and programmatic oversight for innovation, educational partnerships and development across eight colleges, including 22 educational locations within Arizona. She oversees the eLearning Center, as well as the Educational Partnership team and Personalized Learning (competency-based) programs. Additionally, she founded Northern Arizona’s Office of Continuing Education in 2020.

Previously, Stoner was associate provost at Central Washington University where she oversaw multimodal learning and statewide university centers for “place-bound” students, those who face financial and other hurdles to leaving an immediate geographic area to attend school. She holds PhD and MSEd degrees in workforce education and development from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Prior to her position at Central Washington, Stoner was executive director of the University of Illinois, Chicago, (UIC) Extended Campus; she also was founding director of Distance Education and Off Campus Programs at Southern Illinois. She is a member of the Council for Chief Online Learning Officers, University Professional and Continuing Education Association, and has presented extensively at national and regional conferences.

“I am very excited to work with Dr. Stoner,” said Creighton’s provost, Mardell Wilson, EdD, RDN, “and I look forward to the advances in online, adult learner and continuing education she will facilitate through her leadership of the College of Professional and Continuing Education.”
