Tips for New Bluejays

Make the Most of Your Experience

We know there's a lot on your mind so we wanted to offer you some tips on how to prepare for your move to Creighton.

What to Bring to Campus

We aim to make your move to campus as seamless as possible! To help you bring what you need, we've put together a list of recommended items you should bring and items you should leave at home.

Although we encourage you to personalize your room, please make sure to follow all University policies regarding room modifications. General guidelines are listed in the Creighton University Student Handbook. Please bring only what you plan to keep in your room, as additional on-campus storage is not available.

The Move-In Process

When you arrive to campus at your selected time, enter University Lot 48 at the 25th and Cuming Street entrance. This map pin will be helpful for navigating there (if you’re arriving via a taxi or rideshare service, set this location as your destination, too). After checking in, you’ll be directed to your residence hall where our student staff and volunteers will help you unload your belongings. Once your belongings are unloaded and brought up to your room, you will relocate your vehicle(s) to the designated parking areas and return to your hall to continue unpacking. A full list of recommended parking areas is available in the Creighton Guidebook

Waive Your Health Insurance (if applicable)

To ensure students’ academic success, Creighton requires that all full-time students (Undergraduate = 12 credits/semester; Graduate = 8 credits/semester) be covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan for the entire academic year.

New and returning students are auto-enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. If a student already has a comprehensive insurance plan, they are eligible to waive the University-sponsored coverage after registering for classes.

Complete Your Power of Attorney Form

Nebraska is one of two states where 19 is the age of majority, instead of 18. This medical power of attorney form, to be signed by a parent or guardian and notarized, allows students who are 18 and younger to give consent for their own health care. A notary will be available during Summer Preview.

Those who choose to complete this form should do the following:

  1. Email the completed form to studenthealth@creighton.edu. (A copy of the form will be kept on file in Student Health Education and Compliance and a copy will be sent to the CHI Student Care Clinic.)
  2. Students should carry a copy of this form or keep a digital image of this form on their phone, should they seek healthcare in Nebraska, outside of the CHI health system.

Submit Your ID Photo

If you have not done so already, please submit your photo to the Card Services office. Card Services will be open during Move-In to pick up your ID.

Student Employment Paperwork

Bring your student employment paperwork. If you plan to hold an on-campus job during your time at Creighton, you’ll need to bring a few pieces of documentation when you come to campus. Click here to review the process and required documents to complete these steps at Summer Preview.

Microsoft Teams Access

Microsoft Teams is the main method of instant message communication your small group leader will use to communicate during your session. Download the app on your phone or desktop or access it through the Creighton Office 365 suite. Your Net ID and Blue password will give you access to this app.

Start Checking Your Creighton Email Account

We'll start sending communications to your Creighton email account, so get in the habit of checking that now. You can download Outlook or the Office 365 suite and log in using your Net ID and Blue password.
