Gastroenterology

Our Philosophy

The Gastroenterology (GI) and Hepatology fellowship is a three-year program designed to train gastroenterologists who will perform thorough clinical and diagnostic assessments, provide high quality, evidence-based, compassionate patient care and demonstrate lifelong learning. The lifelong learning tradition developed during their training will allow the graduating fellows to stay up to date with the gastrointestinal and hepatologic diseases literature.

Mission Statement

The Division of Gastroenterology at Creighton University-Phoenix campus will support the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance mission of increasing Creighton's impact on education and provision of healthcare at local and national levels.

We will strive to trainer fellows and residents who share our intellectual, social, and spiritual values. We will continue to provide excellent medical care to patients, within an environment of intellectual rigor to foster delivery of best practices to the individual and the community as a whole.

Aims

1. Transform our fellows into critical, ethical, and moral thinkers that are in line with Creighton’s Jesuit values so they can be leaders and agents of change in field of gastroenterology.
2. To train physicians with expertise in reducing healthcare disparities who are dedicated to serve the medically underserved populations. This is demonstrated each year with the program participating in an active Quality Impact research project to decrease health disparities. 
3. Develop interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to enhance patient care and educational experience of the gastroenterology fellow. This will be measured by our 360 evaluations on each fellow. 
4. Develop life-long educational learning practices as demonstrated through scholarly and teaching endeavors. Each year our division will consistently produce scholarly works to be presented at national conferences. 
5. Foster an attitude of leadership and service to others at the local and national level. Each year, our fellows and faculty will engage with the community we practice in to increase colorectal cancer screenings. 
6. Produce not only board certified, but collegial Gastroenterologists who are recognized as experts in their fields, who can practice and excel in a variety of medical environments. This will be measured by the board pass rate of our graduates.
