Ernest Goss

Ernest Goss is currently the Jack MacAllister Chair in Regional Economics at Creighton University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Tennessee in 1983 and is a former faculty research fellow at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. He was a visiting scholar with the Congressional Budget Office for 2003-04 and is a research fellow at the Theodore Roosevelt Institute.

He has published over eighty research studies focusing primarily on economic forecasting and on the statistical analysis of business and economic data. His research paper entitled, "The Internet's Contribution to U.S. Productivity Growth," received the National Association of Business Economics Edmund A. Mennis Contributed Papers Award for 2001. His book, Changing Attitudes toward Economic Reform during the Yeltsin Era was published by Praeger Press in 2003 and his book Governing Fortune: Casinos in America was published by the University of Michigan Press in 2007.

He is a member of the Editorial Board of The Review of Regional Studies and editor of Economic Trends, an economics newsletter published three times per year. He is the past president of the Omaha Association of Business Economics, and President of the Nebraska Purchasing Management Association.

Goss produces a monthly business conditions index for the nine state Mid-American region and the three state Mountain region.  He and Bill McQuillan, CEO of City National Bank, initiated a survey of bank CEOs in rural portions of 8 states. Results from the three surveys are cited each month in approximately 100 newspapers. Newspaper citations have included the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily, The Christian Science Monitor, Chicago Sun Times and other national and regional newspapers and magazines. Each month 75-100 radio stations carry his Regional Economic Report.

Colleen Hendrick

Colleen Hendrick

Colleen Hendrick coordinates the operations of the Survey on Economic Conditions. She is the person behind the scenes who makes everything run smoothly.

Colleen has been with Creighton University for 28 years. She has been with the Heider College of Business for 12 years and now holds the position of Senior Administrative Assistant.

John R. Wingender

John R. Wingender, Jr. received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1985. He is currently a Professor of Finance at Creighton University and the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Economics and Finance for four years. He taught for twelve years at Oklahoma State University where he was the Ardmore Professor of Business Administration. He teaches corporate financial management, international financial management, investment analysis, and portfolio management.

Dr. Wingender has published more than 30 articles in various refereed business journals, such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Management Science, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Financial Research, The Financial Review, and the Journal of Business Research. His research interests include the distribution of stock returns, the use of financial derivatives, counter cyclical hiring, and the decertification of unions.

Dr. Wingender is a member of the Financial Management Association, Midwest Finance Association (Executive Director), and Phi Kappa Phi.

Cindy Workman

Cindy Workman

Cindy Workman is currently the media relations coordinator in the Department of Public Relations at Creighton University and Producer of the Public radio program, "Talking History", for Creighton University’s Department of History. She has been at Creighton University since 1989. Cindy is responsible for the news releases related to the Economic Conditions Survey.

Cindy was previously a reporter, photographer, and producer for television news in North and South Dakota and an anchor reporter and producer in radio news in North Dakota and Nebraska. She worked as a free-lance producer for network and syndicated television programs.

Cindy graduated from Moorhead State University (now University of Minnesota at Moorhead) in 1985 with a degree in Mass Communications.

James Knudsen

James Knudsen is Assistant Professor of Economics in Creighton University's Heider College of Business. He received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. Dr. Knudsen teaches statistics and a variety of economics courses including Public Finance, Macroeconomics, and Environmental Economics. In addition, to his teaching duties he acts as the College’s Assessment Director.

Dr. Knudsen has published papers on the economics of education, education finance, and unemployment compensation. Other research interests include property taxes and the implications of tax rate caps and the economics of retirement.
