Welcome to the Creighton University School of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, located at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center–Bergan Mercy and Immanuel Medical Center.

The Division of Endocrinology was established more than 55 years ago under the leadership of Robert Heaney, MD, who was an international leader in bone, calcium, vitamin D and osteoporosis research. He died in 2016. I assumed directorship of the Division in 1974. Faculty recruitment over the years since the 1970s has brought the Division to five full-time faculty members. The Endocrinology Fellowship was approved in 2006 and started with recruitment of two fellows. It later increased to three fellowship positions. Robert Anderson, MD, is the director of the fellowship program.

All faculty members are board-certified in internal medicine and have subspecialty training and board certification in endocrinology.

Education is an integral component of our service in parallel with excellent patient care and research. In addition to providing core lectures to medical residents and fellows throughout their training, other additional educational opportunities offered to fellows, medical residents and students during their endocrinology rotation include:

  • Weekly lectures with review questions
  • Monthly core lectures by faculty
  • Weekly internal medicine grand rounds

In-patient teaching consultations are conducted at the following hospitals: CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center–Bergan Mercy, Immanuel Medical Center, and Omaha VA Medical Center. Multiple outpatient endocrine teaching clinics are held at Bergan Mercy campus, Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha VA Medical Center and the Dundee Clinic. In addition we have an insulin pump teaching clinic and a thyroid biopsy teaching clinic. We also have opportunities to join in mentored clinical research with each of the clinical faculty. Our clinical faculty is known for bone and mineral research, pituitary research and metabolic research.

Thank you very much for your interest please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
