Psychiatry Residents' Organization
The PRO (Psychiatry Residency Organization) serves as a cornerstone of the Creighton Psychiatry Residency Program, consisting of all general psychiatry residents and child fellows. We strive to foster leadership, facilitate communication, and sponsor programs, seeking to improve each resident’s experience and wellbeing. With twice monthly meetings, residents have an outlet to express concerns, propose ideas for improvement, and acknowledge fellow residents for virtuous acts. Time spent during meetings cultivates inter-class relationships, contributing to the close-knit, family-like feel throughout the program. The peer-elected representatives act as a liaison between residents and a receptive administration, directly working with our program director, Dr. Ranga. The organization galvanizes change within our residency, seeking to improve the program for current and future residents.
Meetings include pertinent program and institutional updates, coordination of the program’s involvement with the APA, the Metro of Omaha Medical Society, and the Nebraska Psychiatric Society, as well as organizing various community service events. PRO also hosts several social activities, including a summer meet and greet BBQ and an annual Christmas party. PRO funds wellness events arranged by the PGY2, PGY3, and PGY4 classes in addition to winter and summer resident retreat days to promote comradery. At the conclusion of the academic year, we assist with the Senior Awards Banquet, honoring outstanding faculty while celebrating graduating residents and fellows. Acknowledging excellent teaching faculty, PRO proudly awards the Golden Apple (for teaching), the Golden Heart (for compassion and empathy), Golden Couch (for outstanding therapist) and the Golden Star (for noteworthy support staff).
Ultimately PRO serves as a voice for the Creighton psychiatry resident. Our aim for our co-residents is to: enrich their experience, offer support, and serve as a conduit for constructive change, helping the Creighton Psychiatry Residency reach its full potential.
