Creighton University School of Medicine and CHI Health are pleased to announce the appointment of Rajesh Tampi, MBBS, DFAPA, MS, who will serve as the Chair of Psychiatry at Creighton’s School of Medicine Omaha campus and CHI Health Behavioral Health Services. Dr. Tampi comes to Creighton from the Cleveland Clinic where he served as Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry and Chair of Psychiatry at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Kerala Medical College followed by psychiatry training in England. Dr. Tampi went on to complete a psychiatry residency in Vermont followed by a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Yale University.
Dr. Tampi currently serves as Co-president of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and is the Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Psychiatry. Dr. Tampi has received numerous awards from his peers and learners for his teaching and clinical skills. In 2021 he received the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Jack Weinberg Award, which honors a psychiatrist who has demonstrated leadership and outstanding work in clinical practice, training and research in the field of geriatric psychiatry. Recently he received the George Tarjan Award. It recognizes significant contributions to the enhancement of integration of international medical graduates in American Psychiatry in 2022.
Dr. Tampi will be working closely with Arun Sharma, MD, who will remain the Vice Chair for Clinical Services and Behavioral Service Line Medical Director.
Dr Tampi’s first day will be January 1, 2022. His academic office will be at the Creighton University Medical Education building and his clinical office will be at CHI Health Immanuel Psychiatric Associates.
