Scholarships List

The following scholarships are awarded annually. For incoming first year students, the application to law school serves as the application for scholarships. To receive scholarships in your second- and third-year of law school, you must reapply for them. Also, part-time law students are generally not eligible for scholarships.

A.A. & Ethel Yossem Endowed Scholarship

Established by the late A.A. Yossem for students of the Jewish faith. Eligible applicants must request consideration on the Application for Admission. 

Albert & Kathleen McGinn Scholarship

Established by the law firm of McGinn, McGinn, Jennings & Springer for first-, second- or third-year students demonstrating financial need and academic scholarship. Preference to students from Council Bluffs or Southwest Iowa. 

Amelia & Emil Graff Endowed Scholarship

Established by the estate of Amelia Bunbury Graff in recognition of her husband, Emil Graff, Arts and Sciences Class of 1922, for first-, second- and third-year students. 

Baird Holm LLP Annual Scholarship

Established by the law firm of Baird Holm LLP for first-year students.

Barbara J. Gaskins Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

As a memorial to a past Law School faculty member and administrator, this endowed scholarship is granted to a first year student with an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln who has financial need and high academic credentials. It may be renewed based on the availability of funds and normal academic progression.

Brian McCullough Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established in the memory of Brian McCullough, Class of 1980, by his family. 

Carl J. Peter Scholarship

Established in memory of Carl J. Peter Sr., a distinguished graduate of the Creighton University School of Law, Class of 1929, and beloved husband, father and grandfather by members of his family for a third-year student of the Catholic faith who received an undergraduate degree from a Catholic university.

Charles E. Stenicka, III Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2005 in honor of Charles E. Stenicka, III.  The award is for first-, second- and third-year students.

Charles Sherman, Jr. & Charles Sherman III Endowed Scholarship

Established by Charles and Lucille Sherman in honor of their son, Charles Sherman, for second- or third-year law students. 

Clayton J. and Arlene D. Vaske Annual Scholarship

For second and third year students. Established by Ronald K. Vaske, Class of 1997, in honor of his parents for their encouragement and support while he was a student at the Creighton University School of Law.

Cole & Joan Macdonald Endowed Scholarship

Established to honor Cole and Joan Macdonald on the occasion of their 55th wedding anniversary by their daughter Deborah A. Macdonald, Class of 1980, for first-, second- and third-year students with financial need. 

Creighton University School of Law Student Bar Association Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established by Creighton University for two third-year students with the highest and most improved GPA.

Croker, Huck, Kasher, Dewitt, Anderson & Gonderinger, L.L.C. Endowed Scholarship

The Croker, Huck, Kasher, Dewitt, Anderson & Gonderinger, L.L.C. Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of one of the firm’s senior and founding members, Richard E. Crocker, Class of 1957. The award is for second- or third-year students with high academic standing and financial need. 

Daniel Clifford Nolan Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Daniel Clifford Nolan by his son Richard J. Nolan, Class of 1970, and Jean O’Neil Nolan for students of Catholic faith who have resided in the state of Iowa.

David A. Svoboda Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Kennedy Holland Law Firm (the former Kennedy, Holland, DeLacy & Svoboda partners are now associated with Lamson, Dugan & Murray and Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP) in memory of their colleague, David A. Svoboda, a 1959 graduate of Creighton University School of Law. 

David Furnas Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established by Carol and James Furnas in memory of their son, David Furnas, Class of 1993, for a student interested in pursuing a career in health and/or medical law. 

Dean's Academic Scholarship

Awarded by the Law School to students of superior academic ability. The Dean’s Academic Scholarship is a three-year scholarship, subject to certain conditions. 

Donald & Daphne Campbell Endowed Scholarship

Established by Donald Campbell, Class of 1978, and Daphne Campbell for first-, second-, and third-year students.

Dr. Eileen O’Neil Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Eileen O’Neil Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by a bequest from Dr. O’Neil’s living trust. The Fund provides tuition assistance for law students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Dr. O’Neil received her BA and JD from Creighton University.  She was a professor of Public Health and Family Medicine at Tufts School of Medicine in Boston, MA, conducting research in public health, healthcare law and ethics, epistemology, and healthcare policy and politics.

Dr. Richard Shugrue/Phi Delta Phi Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Dr. Richard Shugrue, Professor of Law, by an anonymous donor for a second-or third-year member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. 

Father John D. 'Jack' Zuercher, S.J. Memorial Scholarship

Established by an anonymous donor in honor of Father John D. ‘Jack’ Zuercher for a third-year law student. Father Zuercher was a former Chaplain of the Creighton Law School and a longtime member of the Creighton Jesuit Community. 
 

Frances M. Ryan Diversity Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Professor Frances M. Ryan in recognition of her efforts to promote diversity in the School of Law. The purpose of the Ryan Scholarship program is to encourage those who will promote ethnic, racial and other forms of diversity to enter the profession of law. The School will give individualized consideration to all applicants and consider the degree to which each applicant will promote diversity, whether the applicant has overcome a disadvantaged background and the applicant’s potential for success. All applicants who wish to apply for a Ryan Scholarship must request consideration on the Application for Admission. 

Francis Gerald Griffen Reardon Endowed Scholarship

Established by the will of Neal D. Reardon in memory of his late brother, Francis Gerald Griffen Reardon. This scholarship shall be used to assist some worthy student who produces a dissertation on some phase of legal ethics.  

Francis L. & Margaret M. Cudahy Endowed Scholarship

Established by Francis L. Cudahy, Class of 1935, for second- and third-year students. 

Frank J. Kellegher Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Frank J. Kellegher Foundation for second- and third-year students who have expressed an interest in the subjects of Estate Planning and federal and local tax law. 

Fraser Stryker PC LLO Scholarship

Established by the law firm of Fraser Stryker PC LLO for first- and second-year students.

G. Robert Muchemore Foundation Scholarship

Established by the G. Robert Muchemore Foundation that provides scholarships for three law students. Applicants must be graduates of Nebraska high schools with a “B” average, must demonstrate financial need, and must maintain a “B” average in law school.   

Gail Werner-Robertson & Scott Robertson Endowed Scholarship

Established by Gail Werner-Robertson and Scott Robertson for third-year students who indicate interest in using their legal education to pursue an entrepreneurial career.

George W. & Susan J. Venteicher Endowed Scholarship

Established by George W., Class of 1962, and Susan J. Venteicher for second- and third-year law students who did not receive a scholarship upon entering law school. This award is for students who have a respect for the body of knowledge that makes up the study of Law, who seek to enter the profession for the value of the work, and who maintain high ethical and moral standards. 

Harold Rock Endowed Loan Repayment Fund

Established in memory of Harold L. Rock, BS’54, JD’59, by the law firm Kutak Rock LLP to help graduates employed in a public interest position repay student loans.

Harry G. & Marion M. Montgomery Scholarship

Established by the late Harry G. and Marion M. Montgomery for first-, second- or third-year students with high academic standards and financial need.

Harry Kenneth Dwyer Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Harry Kenneth Dwyer, Class of 1930, by his widow, Edith Anne Dwyer, to assist students of high academic standing with need for financial aid. 

Harry L. Welch Award

Established by the law firm of Gross & Welch, P.C., in memory of one of its founders, Harry L. Welch, Class of 1927, noted Nebraska trial lawyer, member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and past President of the Nebraska State Bar Association, and presented annually to the first year student who attains the highest grade in Civil Procedure for the first semester. 

Harry R. Henatsch Endowed Scholarship

Established by the law firm of Katskee and Henatsch, family, and friends of Harry R. Henatsch in commemoration of his 50 years in the practice of law, for second- and third-year students.

Hawkins Family Endowed Scholarship

Established by Kim, Class of 1979, and Karen Hawkins for students who have demonstrated high academic potential and have financial need.

Honorable Allen A. Sekt Endowed Scholarship

Established by the late Honorable Allen A. Sekt, Class of 1936, who was grateful for the opportunities afforded to him by Creighton and the Jesuits. Senator Sekt felt it was an honor to have received his legal education at Creighton and felt a moral duty to give back to the institution that afforded him the opportunity and to the Jesuits who instilled in him a sense of fairness and service to others. He left a rich legacy of public service to his adopted land of Guam and to all he came in contact with.

Honorable Michael W. Amdor Book Fund

Established in 2012 by Mrs. Cathleen Amdor in memory of the Honorable Michael W. Amdor, Class of 1976, to commemorate his love for the law and for learning.  This award is for second-year law students to assist with textbook costs. 

Honorable Sandra L. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship Fund 

The Honorable Sandra L. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by The Honorable Sandra L., JD'82 and Charles J. Dougherty, PhD. The fund provides tuition assistance to a student enrolled in the School of Law with demonstrated financial need with preference extended to a female, first-year student with minor children. This scholarship is an acknowledgement of Sandy's gratitude for her experience as a member of the School of Law Class of 1982. Sandy attributes much of her career success to her Creighton School of Law education.

Honorable Walter H. Smith Endowed Scholarship

Established by the family of the Honorable Walter H. Smith, Class of 1937, to provide scholarships for second and third year law students who have shown sincere dedication to their education, have financial need and have a high level of integrity. 

Jack & Judy Twidwell Pogge Endowed Scholarship

Established by Jack Pogge, Class of 1978, and Judy Twidwell Pogge, Class of 1979, to assist students of high academic standing with need for financial aid. 

James A. & Amelia Doyle Endowed Scholarship

Established by James A. Doyle, Dean of Creighton Law School from 1947 until 1971, for second- and third-year students. 

James J. Fitzgerald Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of James J. Fitzgerald, Class of 1927, by his associates in the law firm formerly known as Fitzgerald, Brown, Leahy, Strom, Schorr & Barmettler, for third-year students. 

James L. Koley ’54 Scholarship in Constitutional Law

Established to honor the remarkable legal and business career of James L. Koley, Class of 1954 by the law firm of Koley Jessen P. C., for a second- or third-year student who has demonstrated an aptitude and interest in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and related constitutional issues.

Jerry M. Slusky Annual Commercial Real Estate Scholarship

Established by Jerry M. Slusky, Class of 1971, for students who have exhibited an interest in pursuing a legal career in the practice of commercial real estate law, finance and development.

John J. & Eleanor B. Sykora Endowed Scholarship

Established by John J. and Eleanor B. Sykora in memory of their son, John D. Sykora, Class of 1977, to provide one full-tuition scholarship annually to a student who ranked in the top five percent of his or her undergraduate graduating class.

Joseph D. Edney Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Joseph D. Edney, Class of 1983, by his parents, John A. and Mary Jane Edney, and friends for third-year students. 

Judge Richard E. Robinson Scholarship Fund

Established by the Honorable Richard E. Robinson JD’27 for first-year students of high academic standing with financial need.

Lawrence & Dinah Raful Endowed Scholarship

Established to honor Lawrence Raful, Dean of the School of Law from 1988 to 1999, and his wife Dinah. 

Lena Lorge Endowed Scholarship

Established by the will of Lena Lorge. 

Leo & Joy McCarthy Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2007 from a bequest made by the late Leo A. McCarthy, Class of 1963. The Leo & Joy McCarthy Endowed Scholarship is intended to assist students enrolled in the Creighton School of Law.

Lisa and Saro Hayan Scholarship in Public Service Law

Established in 2012 by Mrs. Lisa Andrus Hayan, Class of 2003 and Mr. Saro Hayan to honor the excellent education and support Mrs. Hayan received while attending Creighton Law School.  The award is for third-year students who are of high academic standing, demonstrate financial need and have an interest in pursuing a career in public interest.

Locher Pavelka Dostal Braddy & Hammes, L.L.C. Scholarship

Established by the law firm of Locher Pavelka Dostal Braddy & Hammes, L.L.C. for second- and third-year students who have demonstrated high academic potential and have financial need. 

Lois J. TePoel Endowed Scholarship

Named in memory of Louis J. TePoel, Dean of Creighton Law School from 1920 to 1947. This scholarship is for students with high academic achievement and potential for success in the legal profession. 

Margaret Brooks Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Margaret Brooks, by her sister, for second- and third-year female students. 

Marianne & Thomas Culhane Scholarship

Established by Marianne and Thomas Culhane, Class of 1974, for second- or third-year students who are able to demonstrate the need for financial aid.

Mark De Gennaro Endowed Scholarship

Established by Mark De Gennaro, Class of 1986, for first-, second- and third-year students. 

McGrath North Mullin and Kratz Endowed Scholarship

Established by the law firm of McGrath North Mullin & Kratz for two entering first-year students based on academic merit.  These scholarships are in the amount of one-half tuition.   

McKee, Voorhees and Sease PLC Endowed Scholarship

Established by the law firm formerly known as Zarley, McKee, Thomte, Voorhees & Sease, for a second- or third-year student with an interest in intellectual property. 

Medico Insurance Company Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Mutual Protective and Medico Life Insurance Company for third-year students.

Megan M. Hottman Annual Scholarship Fund

Established by Megan Hottman, Class of 2004. This scholarship is for first year Law students in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be extended to African American female students.

Michael J. Galvin, Sr. Endowed Scholarship

Established by Michael J. Galvin, Sr., Class of 1925.

Milton & Pauline Abrahams Endowed Scholarship

Established by Milton R. Abrahams, Class of 1927, and Pauline S. Abrahams for second- and third-year students

N.H. Rasmussen, M.D. Annual Scholarship

Established as an annual gift from John A. Rasmussen, Jr., in honor of his grandfather, N.H. Rasmussen, M.D. 1915, to be used to provide scholarships for deserving students in the School of Law. 

Omaha Law League Scholarship

Established by the Omaha Law League for a student demonstrating academic excellence.

P. James Cosgrave Endowed Scholarship

Established by Pearl-Joan Cosgrave in honor of her father, P. James Cosgrave, for second- and third-year students.

Patrick & Mary Rensch Endowed Scholarship

Established by Patrick Rensch, Class of 1950, and Mary Rensch for first-, second-, or third-year students who demonstrate financial need. 

Philip F. & Ruth E. Nestor Endowed Scholarship

Established by Phillip F. Nestor, Class of 1940, for a third-year student. 

POVERTY LAW PROGRAM

Established by the Robert P. Heaney, BS’47, MD’51 Family Fund Advisors.  This gift expands the Poverty Law Program at Creighton University to help those with limited means—some of the most vulnerable members of our society—by education our students about the legal, political and social challenges facing those living in poverty. 

Rodney & Lois Shkolnick Endowed Scholarship

Established honoring Professor and former Dean Emeritus of the Law School, Rodney, and his wife, Lois Shkolnick, by the law firm of Erickson & Sederstrom for a third-year student. McGrath North Mullin and Kratz is a principal benefactor for this scholarship. 

Roland J. Santoni Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2009 by the Gary & Mary West Foundation on behalf of Roland & Rosemary Santoni.  Professor Santoni served as a Creighton Law School faculty member for more than 20 years and Mrs. Santoni earned her undergraduate and her graduate degrees from Creighton.  The award is for exemplary third-year law students who have received little or no prior scholarship support.

Sal & Mary Kay Carta Endowed Scholarship

Established by Salvadore Carta, Class of 1968, and Mary Kay Carta to acknowledge the importance Creighton University has played in their personal and professional lives, and in recognition of and thanksgiving for the many blessing bestowed on them. The Scholarship is for second- and third-year students who demonstrate the need for financial aid and who rank in the top one-third of the class. 

Simon Korshoj Endowed Scholarship

Established in 1991 by the late Simon Korshoj, for third-year students. 

Student Bar Association Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2010 by the Student Bar Association Board members. The award provides equal awards for two students entering their third-year of law school who have not previously received scholarship assistance from the School of Law.  One award shall be given to the third-year law school student who has the greatest percentage improvement in his or her grade point average between the second semester of his or her first year of law school and the second semesters of his or her second year of law school. The second award shall be given to the qualified third-year law school student with the highest grade point average. The same student cannot receive both awards and the scholarship is not renewable.

The Don Scott Greene Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Professor Greene, a member of the faculty of Creighton Law School from 1979 until 1981, by his widow, colleagues, and students. 

The Evelyn E. Labode Endowed Scholarship

The Evelyn E. Labode Endowed Scholarship at the School of Law was created in memory of Mrs. Evelyn E. Labode through the generosity of her devoted husband, Bode and her loving children, Modupe, Moyo and Ayodele, JD’97. Mrs. Labode was a 1992 graduate of the Creighton University School of Law. By attending law school as a non-traditional student, she was able to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming an advocate for children in the Juvenile Court system and sought to bring justice those who could not afford legal representation. Mrs. Labode passed away in 2011 after a battle with cancer. Her family created this endowed fund in her honor to provide financial aid to qualified first-year African-American students, or students that have a demonstrated history of volunteer work and service to others.

The Emil F. Sodoro Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of the late Emil F. Sodoro, Class of 1951, a first-generation college student and first-generation Lebanese American who was committed to hard work and Catholic education. As a child, he contributed to his family’s welfare by delivering groceries and working the yard at the Union Pacific Railroad.  He put himself through law school by working at his mother’s restaurant.  The scholarship is for a third-year law student who did not receive a merit-based scholarship upon entering the School of Law, but has performed very well in the first and second years.

The Honorable Lyle E. and Regina Strom School of Law Centennial Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Honorable Lyle E. Strom, Class of 1953 and Clinical Professor and Director of the Robert M. Spire Internship Program at the School of Law, and Regina Strom for second- and third-year students. 

The Iowa State Bar Review School Endowed Fund

The Iowa State Bar Review School has generously provided an endowed fund to assist Creighton University School of Law students defray the costs associated with their preparation for the Iowa Bar Examination. The scholarship is available to third-year students who intend to take the Iowa Bar Examination. Distribution of the scholarships will be contingent on the students’ verified registration with the Office of Professional Regulation, Iowa Supreme Court. The School of Law’s faculty member responsible for oversight of bar exam preparation, in consultation with the School of Law administration, shall determine eligible scholarship recipients and select the actual recipients.

The John F. and Anne Hanighen Daly School of Law Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2016, by the estate of John F. Daly, PHB’38, JD’40 for law students with high academic standing and financial need.

The Leon 'Bud' Gaskill Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2011 by the trust of Leon ‘Bud’ Gaskill for a law student who is a graduate of a Nebraska Catholic high school.

Thomas and Ann Lowe McCormick Law Endowed Scholarship

Established by Thomas JD’80 and Ann Lowe McCormick, JD’80 for students of high academic standing with financial need. 

Valentino Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established by the family of the late Salvatore Valentino, Class of 1983, a member of the Creighton’s College of Business Administration faculty, for first-, second- and third-year students of high academic standing who demonstrate financial need. 

William F. Grodinsky Endowed Scholarship

Established on the 90th birthday of the late William F. Grodinsky, Class of 1913, by friends and associates in the firm of Kutak Rock for second-year students. 

William J. & Kathleen A. Lillis Endowed Scholarship

Established by William J. Lillis, Class of 1968, & Kathleen A. Lillis, to assist students of high academic standing with need for financial aid.

William P. Lynch Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of William P. Lynch, Class of 1906, by his son, the Honorable Patrick William Lynch, Class of 1938. 

Winthrop & Frances Lane Scholarship

Established in memory of Winthrop and Frances Lane by a family foundation and associates of the Omaha firm of Baird, Holm, McEachen, Pedersen, Hamann & Strasheim. 

Yale J. Kaplan Endowed Scholarship

Established by the estate of Yale J. Kaplan, Class of 1952, for first-, second- and third-year students who are of high academic standing and demonstrate financial need.

Yale S. Kroloff Endowed Scholarship

Established by the will of Yale S. Kroloff, Class of 1930, for third-year students.
