Medicine Student Research Opportunities
As a Creighton University School of Medicine student, you have the opportunity to collaborate with the School’s faculty researchers to make your own contribution.
Students are encouraged to participate in research during their studies and have unique opportunities to participate in research projects with faculty mentors in diverse research areas. Hearing loss, hereditary cancer, neuroscience, and infectious disease are some of the most active research areas.
Guided Research Selective
Creighton Medical students have the unique opportunity to enhance their understanding of the research process and how it relates to their future careers as a physician in a Guided Research Selective course.
Students will be guided to discover research opportunities, write a grant proposal, obtain IRB approval and begin to build a research portfolio.

Medical Students
As a Creighton medical student, you will have the opportunity to pursue funded research projects during the summer after your M1 year through the Creighton Summer Medical Student Fellowship Program. Participants in the program concentrate in either clinical or basic science research and discover the integral role research plays in the development of medical therapeutics and treatment. The program is administered by the Student Research and Scholarly Activity committee, chaired by Garrett Soukup, PhD.
To support student research and scholarly projects, the School of Medicine may provide travel awards to supplement medical student costs of attendance to present scholarly work at regional and nation conference. For more information, contact the Office of Medical Education.
